I had to stop leveling WAR at 30 because my static was waiting for me with my BRD. We just recently decided to take a break though to farm and/or level up other jobs if we want.

So I decided to go back to my WAR and level it up some more. Now I was wondering....with all the subjob options (NIN,MNK, and THF come to mind), which subs would be the best possible choice at what levels and party situations?

I'm Elvaan by the way if that even matters.

It's debated to death all over this forum, but I can sum it up.

1- Tanking
30-49: /MNK > /NIN (+VIT+HP+Boost+Counter)
50-75: /NIN > /MNK (DWII)
[59-75: /NIN >>> /MNK if there's a BRD in the PT (Carnage Elegy)]

2-Damage dealing
30-54: /THF > /NIN (SA+Sturmwind)
55-59: /NIN >>> /THF (Rampage)
60-75 : Depends on the PT configuration

DWII still doesn't make War/Nin a better tank than War/Mnk. But it's undeniable that War/Nin is a better tank when he has proper help.

SA + Sturmwind is still useful from 55-60 for Reverbration and Fragmentation. Rampage for Distortion. I'd say it depends on PT configuration at this range, too.

You didn't address the role of Shield Break or Armor Break at all. Otherwise, it was a good summary.

As a GAxe war, I perfer using Breaks as opposed to closing SC with /THF. (Even though I'm at the lower levels).

Unfortunately, not everyone goes out of their way to get awesome gear in the low 30s, this means Shield Break can be what makes or breaks the party. I've been in parties that couldn't chain well anymore after I switched from soloing Shield Break to closing with Sturmwind, but if you're going to close with Sturmwind, use /THF.

I really need to farm my ass off for Ninja sub (I still have to start that quest..) and get the Dual Weild Ring, so until I do that I can't say anything about /NIN and 1hAxe.

/MNK tanking I felt very comfortable with, but not having Regen could = crying. Boosting and Voking along with GAxe damage will help with tanking. You can always Bersek => SC => Defender if you're tanking to use WS.

Or Berserk => SC => cancel Berserk for better efficiency

The fastest way for me to safetly Berserk is to activate Defender.

I can always cancel both, as I don't need either Defender or Berserk to tank in a good pt.

Switching from controller to keyboard quickly is a hassle.

Does activating Defender draw any hate?
If then my method might cause more hate than just canceling Berserk, if not then the more efficient method is the one you perform quicker

Hmmm Defender doesn't generate any noticeable hate.

My method just allows to keep Defender in case you really need it
