Kingdom Hearts Is Getting Remixed in HD for the PS3

It was bound to happen eventually that Square-Enix would cash in on the KH brand, though why they'd choose (arguably) two weakest handheld iterations to pair with the (otherwise great) Final Remix of KH1 baffles me. Of course, that begs the question of whether they'd go back and do a 2.5 with KH2/Birth By Sleep/Dream Drop Distance at some point. Now that I actually type that out, it does make sense... sort of... if you're a calculating bean-counter.

PS3 - HD Remixes, but no, they can't just do a proper collection like everyone else. No its SE and they have to act special.

SE needs to realize they're losing customers' faith because they don't seem to respect their time or money. I'm all for platform exclusives but what platform KH goes to next is as predictable as playing racquetball in a hall of mirrors.

The 1.5 suggests they're going for the games that happened before KH2. Besides, 358/2 Days stands to gain the most from a remake. They couldn't even afford to change the facial expressions on the character models. BBS had killer load times running off the UMD and had the occasional slowdown but otherwise it wasn't hurt too much from being on the PSP.

I don't believe SE will be that generous. FFX HD isn't even out yet, I believe and they're selling it as a stand-alone game for what would be projected to be $40 US retail.

We're talking about the same company that just chopped TWEWY in half and sold it for $20 on iOS.

Even if they do HD up Re;CoM and cutscenes from 358/2, I'm betting they'd charge you the full $60 just for all that.

Nomura dropped a couple more details recently:

- The original Kingdom Hearts will be using some of Dream Drop Distance's updated character assets and gameplay mechanics lifted from KH2.
- This likely means face models will also be consistent rather than shifting from low to high-res and back since KH3D and BBS moved away from that.
- They were planning to do a full HD version of 358/2 Days, but couldn't afford the time so they're just doing key cutscenes.

While the original KH certainly hasn't aged well, MGS Twin Snakes proves you can change an original game to much and end up marginalizing it. Then again i still maintain that, as games, neither KH or KH2 were terribly good to start with Both were mediocre as action RPGs go, they just had good production values to make up for it. I've always been left with the impression taht the handheld entries were conceived as games first and stories second.

I thought 2 was shit. I know I've said it before, but it was such a huge let-down. I actually did like 1, even if the camera was always half the battle. And I liked most of the games after that. But 2 and Re:Coded are the two entries into the series I could not bring myself to ever play again.

Actually, I'm talking about the transformation drives, the unbalanced limit attacks, and much of the battles being built around over-the-top action all triggered by the Triangle button. I'll only give the game that most of the later games managed to refine the idea of transformations and seriously toned down the Reaction Commands.

Crafting was also horrible in both of the original PS2 entries. By the time you could get the materials needed for all the best craftable armor and weapons you tended to have quested better items. That and Donald and Goofy get kicked from the final battle.

358/2 had a system that properly scaled and made you feel like you had a say in how Roxas was developed and the skill fusion of BBS was also a big step forward.. Sadly, this is SE were talking about and any indication of progress and sensible design must be scrapped and discarded for an entirely new idea in the next game. This just so they feel like they did something new to justify a new game or sequel.

That doesn't feel like the current trend for Kingdom Hearts thus far, actually. The games since Birth by Sleep at least seem to be sticking to the general idea of the Command Deck. I'm actually rather hoping III will have some fully realized version of it.
