Review: Persona 4 Arena -Destructoid



Looks like it turned out really well. I'm hoping Elizabeth is as fun to play as she looks:

My copy is in the mail but I opted for the cheapest shipping since I really don't care when I get it. With any luck, I'll be playing it next week sometime. I am playing Persona 4 PS2, though, and am thoroughly enjoying it. Yes, I'm one of those that got their brains sucked in by FFXI/WoW and became ignorant of the larger gaming library that existed for the PS2 (a lot of great games I missed :/ )

Elizabeth's art style changed a little ... her face looks more like Yukiko Amagi's from Persona 4 The Animation.

Persona 3 and 4 were the games that derailed me from FFXI and got me to tear through everything else SMT on PS2 and then other RPGs.

I don't really think Elizabeth looks that different from before, I would have preferred Margaret be playable, but then I saw what she did to my party as an optional boss in P4. She's mega-boss tier stuff even Elizabeth can't compete with.

Margaret would stomp over everyone, so I'm glad it's Elizabeth that's playable.

Been working my way through the single player campaign the last couple days. It's interesting... there are branching decisions during the cutscenes between fights, and if you choose the wrong one, your story path veers off and crashes into a side story and ends prematurely.

Gameplay-wise, I've tried out about half the cast, and they all play differently. Yosuke and Chie are fast rushdown types. Kanji is a very strong brawler. Yukiko is a ranged zoner, Yu seems to be a mid-ranged fighter with combo madness. Aigis is powerful ranged attacker, but she has limited ammunition. Haven't had a chance to test out the rest of the roster yet, but the only one I don't like so far is Aigis. She's slow, her limited ammunition seems to be a tactical liability unless there's some move in her arsenal that lets her restock (?), and without her gun moves her attack range is only moderate, as her Persona-based attacks are mostly push moves designed to open range.

I hear the Margaret fight has been altered in P4G.

She can instalkill you in 25 turns instead of 50 now, but the same item penalty still applies and she'll instakill your party upfront if you come to battle with it.

Carved out some time to play P4A and am having a blast with it (arrived sooner than I was expecting it to) I just need a ... proper joystick ... with Sanwa/Seimetsu parts.

Why again are people defending the region lock? Zen United are killing all interest in the game in the EU before it even releases.

For people who can't view Facebook at work: The EU STILL doesn't have a release date for P4 Arena... All we have is "Some time in October"

Well funk. Guess I'll just cancel my pre-order for the 360 version and just purchase the Asian version (Japanese PS3). As patient as I can be, I do not want to do another "wait for Tales of Vesperia or Catherine to come out on the 360" again :/

So we STILL have no release date for Persona 4 Arena in Europe and all we have for P4 The Golden is "Spring 2013". Both are region locked so importing is out of the question unless you have a hacked console and you can find a company willing to ship it.

Something tells me that Atlus frankly just doesn't give a shit about us anymore.
