Awesome gameplay while leveling up and uncovering the story but incredibly boring after that part is done.






At least we'll have Skyrim soon enough.

Also, I'm hoping Incarna (EVE Online) will be the thing that will attract enough new players to the game before Dust. 'Cause we are going to need a lot of mercs to die for us capsuleers.

Quite the sexy cinematic. I don't have any particular love for the Star Wars universe, but if they can make an MMO with the kind of player agency and story immersion that Mass Effect has, I might not play anything else for a while. The endgame could be completely non-existent and I'd still be busy for a long time exploring all the possibilities of each class's story.

That's what happened with DCUO. And it's awesome for players like me because you are done with the game in a few months tops.

However it's VERY bad from a MMOG point of view, I think.

I think the problem with these WoW clones is they focus too much on the theme park approach. Which gives them a very short life span.

Whereas games like EVE (and even XI) focus more on creating a world for players to live in.

Just compare your play time on games like Oblivion (and soon Skyrim) against Mass Effect games. The way the world is designed makes a huge difference.


Edit PS > Problem with EVE is the learning curve is too steep and the world too complex (and harsh), which scares great number of people off. This I hope is solved by Incarna though. /crossfingers

ME games: Over 300 hours and counting.
idk how much time I spent with Morrowind since there weren't any handy services spying on me for that information back then, but I recall playing it pretty hard for a month or two and losing interest. Didn't buy Oblivion.

Coming back to XI repeatedly has nothing to do with the world to me. I express my revulsion at the game design on a regular basis. It's all about spending time with old friends. I don't expect another MMO to replace that for me. At least, now that XIV has flopped I don't. I could care less about whether TOR has a sustainable business model so long as it shows me an enjoyable time while I'm there.

Yeah that's pretty much how I'm approaching these games now. They are very disposable (MMO)games after all.

But I wish there was a true new game world where I could spend as much time as I did with XI.

Maybe Skyrim and mods will do that. Or maybe the next Fallout.

Pretty much waiting on Diablo III to be that game for me. Not because of a depth of game mechanics or breadth of content, but because it provides a shallow action context for hanging out with buddies and wasting time without requiring much personal investment.

Incarna (EVE) could become a good world for me, but I doubt it.

Chances are it will be little more than a gimmicky UI/chat room with nothing to do inside stations but chat and look pretty. Since they want you out in spaaaaace.
