Anyone playing it? I'd love to hear thoughts and impressions. I'm waiting for it to come out on Xbox360, and then I'm going to quit FFXI and switch to Champs. (I really don't wanna pay two monthly subscription fees). So please... any MMO Superheroes out there, let me know what'cha think! Thanks, Madjo

Haven't actually played CO. But given that I play CoH, I've obviously done what I can to read and compare. My shallow comparison to City of Heroes: The Archetype>primary/secondary system of City "" makes it impossible to create a lot of heroes to the player's liking. For instance, you can't make a dual pistols/kung fu character (hi Neo!) or a character that grows in size... and so on. Not to say it sucks. Most character concepts can be realized, but there are lots that fall through the cracks. Champions, meanwhile, seems to be able to accommodate a much wider variety of heroes, such as a full-on "elemental" slinger while City of "" requires you to be a Fire Blaster, an Ice Blaster, etc (though at least CoH has storm summoning). The downside? There doesn't seem to be a lot of junk you can actually do with your Champions characters. The gameplay seems to be shoddy, inconsistent, and not well balanced. A telekinetics expert needs retardedly high stats to TK even relatively light objects. And then those objects must be placed within a direct line of effect to you and the target you're gonna hit with the TK'd object (you can't carry 'em around to the next spawn, for instance). This results in a power that's nigh-useless for about 95% of the time. Would you rather have a power that does 50 damage 5% of your fights, or a power that does 50 damage 100% of your fights? So it suffers heavily from "Gimped for concept" syndrome. But remember, this is my regurgitation of other people's comparisons between the 2 MMO games. If DCUO ends up being at least more in-depth than the Ultimate Alliance games, it could be neat. I suppose we'll see.

I have also played CoH/CoV , and I really liked those games. In all honesty, I liked them better than FFXI (the only other MMO I've really gotten into). I just prefer playing games on a console, and City of Heroes didn't give me that option. I've heard similar things... as far as the character creation being totally awesome, but gameplay beyond that being a little light on content. My main motivation to try the game out stems from my obsession with superheroes. I just love that atmosphere. I'd rather be a superhero in a modern city than an orc/elf, warrior/mage/archer in the classic "fantasy" realm. Latest rumored release date on Xbox360 is mid-March I believe. Not sure if it's been confirmed. You heard anything?

1) Shouldn't this be in Gaming? 2) I tried it out but it could barely run on my com. I've had little to no luck playing games outside of FFXI so I couldn't really get too far into this one. Any future MMOs I get will most likely be played on my PS3 3) Of course it's light on content, it's barely a few months old. All MMOs are light on content when they're new. But if you can enjoy the character creation and combat systems of the game, you should be able to play it long enough for them to add new stuff. If that new stuff ends up being crap it may be best to take a break and comeback later down the road.

Please put threads like this where they belong. This is not about FFXI at all.
