My Mood: | The Dissidia Thread Destructoid - Final Fantasy: Dissidia is available on PSN now I should mention that when Dale North means "now" he's either several hours early or a week late. Its not showing up on my end yet, but then, PSN is always a mess for hours on updates until the following day. Even though I have the retail copy, I've wanted it as a download since I play it a fair bit. That and I hated the Data Install lengths, which I would constantly adjust to make room for other games. Better just to have the whole damn thing loaded on the card. I guess we can use this thread to post epic battles from replays, I'll upload a couple later on. |

And strategy discussions? I meant to make a thread for Dissidia a while back but truth be told, I haven't touched the game since I got my Super Ribbon... Getting that thing really burned me out on the game. Is it still PSP only, or can I download this formatted for PS3? I've been saying it should have been on PSN for PS3 owners for a while now, with real online play damn it. News Flash SE: Not everyone has a million friends with PSP's to play together with! EDIT: Okay so it's still PSP/Go only, nice... nice bit of fail there SE, particularly given the PS3 price drop. |

Why would it only be downloadable to PSP Go? >.> It applies to all PSP models so long as you have the space on your card. Its about 1.3 Gigs. That's actually the information I needed to know since I only have a 4 Gig card, so I'll get this version a bit later when I have an 8 or 16 gig card. I keep seeing used 16 gigs on eBay but I'm always suspicious when it comes to eBay. Retail it just costs fucktarded amounts of money. But hey, that Sony for you. They still sell 16 MB PS2 memory cards for $25. And that's what San Disk is for, I can probably get a better deal on an 8 Gig over the holidays and that's really more than enough space anyway. |

And your snide remarks still don't make any sense Feba; I cited Origins because it was a PSP game that was ported to PS2. So why can't they format Dissidia to run on PS3 when it's perfectly capable of doing so? Or have you not seen the Blu Ray God of War Collection that's due out soon. Yeah, I'm not buying any more of Sony's bullshit about it being too hard/expensive to get PS3 to have backwards compatibility again.

PSP is not a PS2. PSP also has component cable hookups made just so you can play your games on the TV if you want to. This is why there are not PSP games playable on PS3. Sony and people that make exclusives for them kinda want you to get a PSP. Origins was ported to PS2 because it sold like shit on PSP. Same thing with the GTA games, which look worse on PS2 because they didn't modify the resolution at all. Games like the new Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, were planned for PS2 and PSP from the outset. So was Motorstorm Arctic Edge. The results of both are questionable. The PSP version of Jak lacks the camera control of the PS2 verison; the PS2 version of Motorstorm lacks the online play of the PSP version. PS2 version ofJak lacks the robust environments of previous games because there had to be a PSP version, so it ends up feeling like the very first Jak game. If, hypotetically you could run PSP games on PS3, you not gain any use for the second analog stick and the games would look blurry. Starting to see the issues that come up here? You just think its a cut-and-paste deal - its not. Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 11-06-2009 at 01:35 AM. |

You can't just think of things from the consumer side. You have to realize what it means to the developers and publishers involved. As much as I hate SEGA for abandoning Shenmue, I know they aren't just holding it hostage-- there's a HUGE amount of effort needed to revitalize the series, especially after it's lingered for so long. While I would personally support an updated rerelease of the first two, I also know that redoing all of the voice work, upgrading the graphics, and adding new features would take quite a bit of time and money. Would I think it's worth it? Of course, it's only $50 to me. But I also know, unfortunately, that Shenmue does not have a good sales history, and even devout fans doubt its future success. What you want would take a lot of money to do, only to either sell poorly (due to being a terrible fit for the PS3 platform, given its low graphic detail) or sell well but undercut the PSP version (due to new features). Porting from systems as different as the PSP and PS3 is especially not simple. Or again, go learn how computers work. You cannot run the same code on different pieces of hardware; that any of us use such a vast array of components with the same software is thanks to Operating Systems and drivers. If we ran all of our software directly on the metal, as consoles pretty much do still, that software would need to be rewritten to support EVERY component that didn't follow a precise standard; basically everything except maybe your mouse and keyboard, if you buy cheap and simple ones. The act of taking code intended for one machine (or operating system) to another almost always involves human effort, especially if you want it done well. And that's just to run the code; to have that code be suitable to an entirely new audience and interface, plus adding new features? This is all time and money, Malacite, and in a way that is almost certainly not worth it to SE

PSP & PS2 are practically interchangeable, with PSP being slightly less powerful (See: Silent Hill, God of War, etc). So why couldn't SE make a proper port for PS3 owners? Perhaps with full online support? No, they'd rather just do the same stupid shit they always do; Release the original in Japan, create an "International" version that's updated for Western audiences, and then remake that same version for the JP audience to get them to buy it a second time on the same platform. Frankly I'm amazed that actually works over there but oh well. Dissidia's an awesome game, but it really would be nice to be able to play it online and on my nice shiny HDTV. I'm not saying it's as easy as copy & pasting the code, but it's not like this sort of thing hasn't been done before *points to all the PS1 games re-formatted for PS3* I'd wager SE just doesn't feel they'd make enough money on it to make it worth doing. You know, now that I've thought about it - why even get anything bigger than 8GB when after that I could just offload whatever I download onto an external HDD? This would actually net me waaaay more storage for far less money than the memory sticks. Moving the stuff back and forth would only be a little fuss. It would be the perfect place to store whatever shows/movies I download, too. That aside, the Destructoid editors seem to like to maintain Dissidia is a button masher. I guess I should start playing Dissidia only with the HP attacks and not bother building up Bravery, then it would be a button masher. |
