| Junior Member | I need to expand my DS library
I'm currently floating on games that people have loaned me but I'm still looking for something solid enough that it would actually deserve my money. I burn out on RPGs a bit quickly these days but I wouldn't say no to a good one. I don't have quite the same time to sink into them as I used to, not to mention the fact that I probably have at least 3 I need to finish at the moment. The return of sprite based RPGs is something I'm happy about though. What I'm really hoping for is something that's good to just pick up and play mindlessly to the point of it becoming zen. I did that a lot with Street Fighter last year but alas no one has had the sense to port Third Strike to the DS and the only other fighter I've come across(Guilty Gear) was horrid. I've been told the puzzle games for the DS are pretty good but they're not really my cup of tea. Any recommendations or hidden gems you guys have found?

Can you list the games you have played or own so that way we won't list duplicates? ![]() If you haven't played Disgaea then GOGOGOGOGOGOGO!!! I haven't played the original Disgaea, but I own both 2 and 3. I thought I was in love with Tactical RPGs before I played them, but after that mayhem I was at a loss for words.

Heh, alright I'll list what I have access to or had access to: Contact Magical Starsign Mario 64 DS (good riddance) Guilty Gear Dust Strikers (good riddance) Rune Factory Mario and Guilty Gear were trash, Contact was amazing and I haven't really spent too much time with the others. Oh god...Disgaea. I loved that game. Nothing like starting the battle by chain throwing your entire party and ending with a prinny bomb. That might be worth picking up, but I honestly don't know of a game that's more of a time sink than Disgaea.

New Super Mario Bros is pretty cool if you like the sidescrolling style mario games.

I personally don't see the appeal of fighting games and brawlers on the DS, so I have no suggestions there. However if you like a brawler-themed game, then Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier is very good for that. Its an an RPG with lots air juggle combos, tons of crude humor and more cleavage than any video game I've ever played. Its a tad repetitve, but if you like watching space cowboys, princesses, mechs and androids beat the crap out of aliens and like Namco protagonist cameos, check that one out. Any Castlevania gameon DS is highly recommended. Order of Ecclesia especially Devil Survivor is an excellent RPG, though its styled after a strategy RPG title, its has more of a classic RPG feel with a really fast paced. Pretty much any RPG Atlus publishes for DS is golden, Etrian Odyssey, Dark Spire and so on. Steal Princess, if you can find it, is a fun little puzzle/platformer. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, is a strategy RPG themed after the combat style of the VP games, so if you liked Disgaea, there's a similar experience herre for beatdowns. Yeah, handhelds and fighters just don't mix. It doesn't get much more zen than Kirby's Canvas Curse. Kirby Super Start is awesome too. Mega Man ZX/Advent are also good games if you've ever enjoyed Mega Man X-style gameplay. If Yoshi's Island DS plays anything like the original, that's a safe bet. If you never played Chrono Trigger, that's one of the must-have RPGs out there and the DS version is by far the best out of the three (the other two being SNES and its PSX port with asinine load times.) I've also heard good things about Phantom Hourglass.

My Mood: | Re: I need to expand my DS library I forgot about Kirby Superstar, that was my most favorite SNES game. Many hours were wasted on starting new games and playing over and over again. Especially that mode where you could fight all the bosses, I did that wayyyy to much.

Absolutely Disgaea if you care for tactical RPGs at all. You could get a year of play time from it. Any of the Kingdom Hearts games. You can get 2 games in one for FF1 and 2. Could also get 3-6? Japanese Coach if you're interested in learning it. Castlevania if you like syphony of the night.
