Lol, i played through FF1 several times on the NES and never got frustrated with the scheme. Of course it was one of the first video games I ever played at age 10 so I didnt know any ways to make it better. I can still go back and play it and enjoy it

It's amazing to the point of unbelievable to me that a 10-year-old would have any idea of how to progress in that game, at least not without some guidelines and/or VERY detailed instructions. And while we're talking Virtual Console, Super Mario Kart or GTFO.

My son played the first FF when he was 6ish. He started playing video games when he was 3, was reading by 4, and whooping my ass (at times) by 8. He's was an rpg addict like me too.

Yeah, my parents got it for me when it came out, and I was born in 84, so however old that made me. I had the two booklets, one was a map of all the dungeons, the other was a stat sheet on every mob in the game. And thats all I had lol. I just talked to every npc and they told me where to go next. I think I got stuck when I needed the airship, so I just wandered aimlessly until I found an npc that told me it was in the small southern desert.

I'm just curious to how long it took you to figure out how to even equip stuff in that pitiful (and painful) excuse of an interface; how many battles were fought barehanded by everyone against those imps? Also, freakin' lolDnDMagicSystem.

To be fair, this one is a nice addition for those that wanted to see what the original version was actually like. It makes much more sense than what PSN did weeks ago in putting up FFT, but not FFT War of the Lions. I mean, if the idea was not to let PS3 owners feel left out, I guess they succeeded, but much like the Tomb Raider releases they more or less fucked SE over on any sales potential for a UMD Legacy release of War of the Lions when it happens. Either way, you'd see what the game was like, they're practically the same aside from WotL having a much better feature set. Though I have to admit, there's a bizzare cult-of-personality attached to FFT, much like the one attached to FFVII. I'm of the opinion that Nippon Ichi, Atlus and Level 5 have done more for the genre lately than SE has. You know, by making it fun rather than just tedious. |

My Mood: | Re: FINAL FANTASY hits the Virtual Console! Back in the day YM, there weren't a mass of other rpg's to compare the game to. Back then we thought it ws pretty damn sweet what you could do in it. Now you can sit there and compare this or that in the original FF to some other rpg thats evolved from it. Then you can say "how could you play that!" but that was all we had. Thats why its so special to some, it was the beginning....the first love...and thats always special.
