Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

Siliconera Persona 3 Portable Has A Female Protagonist

Arisato Minato hasn't been totally replaced, but now you'll have the option to play through Persona 3 with female protagonist. No news on any other features, but hopefully the gameplay upgrades from Persona 4 will be there. Plus I think its a given the female character will have some different social link interactions than the male version.

The addition makes sense, though, Persona 3 and 4 garnered many female fans on top of the male ones. Plus the female characters aren't airheads like most of the other ones in RPGs are, which is a very good thing to see from time to time.

I'm just curious why Atlus is skipping over Persona 2 and going straight to Persona 3. Hopefully P2 will happen at some point.

Great, now I can't buy Persona 4 on PS2 because I'll be afraid they'll rerelease it on PSP.

Dammit, Atlus, maybe be a little less awesome.

Re: Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

I'm kinda curious what's going to be missing there, though. Persona 3 and 4 have a lot of voiceover in them, either they found a way to compress the hell out of that or they'll be removing quite a bit of it.

I seriously wish they could find a way to get the original Devil Summoner that was released for PSP out here. Rumor was that they lost the source code, but with so many roms out there and copies of the Saturn and PSP versions, you think they could just reverse-engineer the thing and have a version.

Sadly, though, all SMT games on PSP so far have just been ports. DS is getting all the new entries (Devil Survivor, Strange Journey).

Re: Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

The Atlus forums have been saying that it's going to have full party control like in Persona 4 which sounds pretty cool.

EDIT: Am I the only one who thinks that the Female Protegonist looks a LOT like Yukari? . It would be pretty cool if she was the female protagonist actually. i liked her a lot when I played P3.

Yukari was described as the upbeat girl everyone likes, yet in the game she seems to be the most overwhelmingly negative person you'll ever meet.

Re: Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

Well to be fair given her backstory she does have an excuse for emoing out which is a lot more than what can be said for a certain other Protagonist of a cash cow game

To be honest she does act how you would expect a scared teenager to act. Name a real life teenager that doesn't act negitive most of the time and I'll show you a talking puppy.

Actually that is one of the reasons why I never understood the overwhelming criticism thrown at Yuzu from Devil Survivor especially if you play her path.

The only thing i wish for in the P3 port is that Fuuka's VA is changed. I tend to play the game with the sound off because of her.

I don't see why Multiple UMDs should be out at all. Especially if it's a downloadable game where the doesn't matter to most people anyway-- or even downloadable only. A couple games have gone that route. Expecting people to have 6-8 GB free (or to go buy a new memory stick) isn't that bad.

Yuzu was an airhead and an airhead written like a teenage girl from the late 80s and early 90s rather than one that would exist today. Even my sister has gotten over the "Ew computers are nerd stuff" and is now in her "OMG social networking" site phase. Yuzu should have at least had enough brain cells to bang together to log on to Facebook or MySpace, all I'm saying. I didn't take the Yuzu path yet anyway, took the Haru + Gin path.

Yukari, on the other hand, was just the bitch of the four primary female characters in Persona 3. Mitsuru is the unattainable rich girl with a heart of gold, Fukka was the shy one, Aigis was a robot that could talk to dogs. Someone had to be the full-time bitch, so they picked Yukari. Persona 4 didn't have a full-time bitch, well, actually that would be Kanji, but he was confused and a guy. Chie just had mood swings.

Re: Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

Yes because a teenager selfishly wanting to run away from responsability no matter how bad the result of running away will be (especially going by the implications of the ending for her route) isn't realistic at all . She does get a lot less whiny on Amane's route and Atsuro's routes though (Never do Atsuro's route on a first playthrough. I had to load suspend data from the belial fight and go for Amane's route because the first fight on Atsuro's route is just a nightmare if you don't have a ton of Macca on hand). I haven't done the Haru + Gin path yet though, I'm heading for that on this playthrough so I wouldn't know what she's like on that.

Whoever let you keep your ending Demons for a New Game+ is a genius. Being able to skip past the annoying battles with your endgame demons to get straight to the different story paths within a couple of hours of starting the New Game + is great. Actually I just put the Endgame Demons on Keisuke when you have him for a day so he doesn't spend most of his time wasting my party's MP on Recarms but since most of the fights with him on the party are those annoying "Don't let X escape and Y die" fights...

Not everyone has the bandwidth allowance to download a 6-8GB game every other week.

Not everyone really wants to store a huge number of tiny memory sticks that are very easy to lose.

Not everyone has the connection speeds to download the game in the time it would take to walk to the store 5 miles away, purchase it, walk back from the store and charge up the PSP.

Some people actually like having the packaging and artwork as well as the shinies that special or limited editiond may come with.

PSP doesn't even fucking get new game releases every other week. One 6GB+ game a year will not kill people; especially if the digitalization kiosks they're talking about can just put the game files on your PSP directly. A 6GB USB transfer (or even wifi) is much faster.

Then buy one big one. An 8GB memory stick isn't that bad, neither are adapters for 16GB of SD memory. Multi-disk games have never been handy things.

Then go to the store and download it. Or put it on overnight. Or get a better connection. It's certainly less trouble than trying to find the one store around with a copy, anyway.

Sorry to break it to you, but digital distribution is the future, at least for handhelds. It's much cheaper for companies to have you download a game than to ship retail copies out and hope everyone can find them. They have higher profit margins, or the ability to cut costs and sell more units. They have more control (the resale market is probably the single biggest source of injury to game industry bottom lines; when people resell games back within a week, and gamestop pushes people to buy them for a few dollars less, that really hurts), and it's an easy way to slow piracy significantly. Most people either have broadband, or go to a place with broadband access at least as frequently as they go to game stores. And again, game stores will probably start to support digital copy services eventually; whether you buy a download ticket through them (Which has advantages for all parties), or they have machines that already have a copy of the game's files, and merely need to transfer it to your machine, or whatever else. I wouldn't be surprised to see a merger between game shops and net cafes.

It's not downloading that makes me angry, I'm rather ambivalent about that. It's stupid comments that get me angry.

I just think it's highly entertaining how he thinks that everyone will instantly find all of his ideas the best thing since sliced bread and then gets all bitchy when someone hints that it might not be the best way to go with things.

Re: Persona 3 coming to PSP - Now with female protagonist

Feba's a Yukari?

I mean, let's not forget that while PSP's new releases are somewhat slow, that Sony plans to get a lot of older UMD games available for PSPGo. This doesn't mean it only affects PSPGo, as the downloads will be made available to all users.

Provided they buy lots of Sony-patented memory sticks, anyway. 16 GB will fill out fast, probably part of the reasoning behind the "Mini" games they're coming out with. Still, its going to fill a PSPGo or memory stick faster that a DSi Ware games will fill DSi's internal 256 MB.

I dislike digital downloads. I will only buy a PSP Go once I can put homebrew on it, otherwise I have no use for one.
