A PS3 grill home entertainment system has my support.

But they need to sell an USB-fridge add-on as well.

The emphasis wasn't on old, it was on how he may never get around to playing those games. Have you seen his gaming to-do list? It's long, and there's a chance he adds another game every time he passes the bargain bin.

No offense intended, though, y'know?

Old or new, most games suck either way.

Here's a thought.

Buy a fucking PS2?

I mean, these things are clear to me:

A) You have a desire to play PS2/1 games
B) You have no desire to play PS3 games
C) You have no desire to spend 599 US DOLLARS (I honestly don't even know what a PS3 costs any more)

I don't see how any of these things add up to requiring BC in your PS3. If you already have PS2 games you want to play why do you not have the console to play them on? If you already have a PS2 then why does backwards compatability matter?

Except I do get around to playing them. And some of them are gems. It takes awhile, but I do get to them. And actually, not only have I stopped buying games (with very few exceptions) until I get through my current backlog, but I've spent very, very little on these old games. I'd have maybe enough money to buy a new game, and that's about it.

I should not have to have a PS2 and a PS3, the whole idea is to have the new system play the old games as well, so you dont have 20 systems around your TV -.-

They had it in there to begin with, and all their stupid switching around and indecisiveness, they removed it.

Don't be silly. They removed it because of profit, not because they're idiots. They make more money by selling PS3s without BC (which costs money) than by selling with it. They also make money by continuing to produce and profit well off PS2s.

BC is one of the most cost effective things to remove. Wireless is cheap, and an easy selling point. Hard drives, cheap. USB ports, memory card readers, cheap. Chrome lining, cheap. Emotion Engine? Not so much. If we see BC come back, it will probably be software emulation. Which might even be possible to backport to PS3s that don't currently support BC, which would be a nice plus for them. But software emulation is significantly more complex than just tossing in your old chips to do the processing.

Re: Possible PS3 Slim Info

The only ones to blame for the lack of BC are all the people who didn't want to pay for the PS3 at it's higher price. So Sony had to strip the console from many good features to cut costs and prices.

Hopefully they'll release an Elite version of it by the time I need to get a new PS3 since production costs will get cheaper like usual.

Yeah, because spending $500 on a video game console in an already faltering economy - even back then - would have been such a great idea.

Hate to break it to you, but many people out there consider backward compatibility a standard feature. Both Sony and Nintendo cemented this standard in the minds of consumers with Game Boy Advance and PS2, so the moment either of them deviated from the path, they were bound to get some much-deserved criticism for it.

And they have.

But cost still matters and no matter how you want to rationalize or defend Sony on this one, people view BC as a cheap addition. They had plenty of tech around to play PSX games on PS2 when it came out, people expect the same. Doesn't matter if that's feasable - its the expectation. Don't fufill it and you fail.

Nintendo could easily add GBA compatibility to the DSi and I have a feeling it will only be a matter of time before they add the software emulation to it. They probably just didn't expect there to be a demand for it for a while, but they were wrong.

Sony has patented something related to PS2 software emulation, it damn well better be included with the slimline and offered as a download for the others later.

I would have to say that is absolutely a fake. There are a lot of pictures floating around out there of a slim PS3 and this is one of the uglier ones. I saw another that looked very much like the PS3 does now and seemed to be MUCH more legitimate than the one above.

Re: Possible PS3 Slim Info

I'm still suspicious that there will be a price drop at all. After months of saying there wouldn't be a price drop - from any of the big three - Sony would suddenly start cutting now? And break the news at a European show, at that?

Considering the price point of a PSPGo is going to be $250 (which is pretty arrogant pricing as is), how would a PS3 be $300? Sony seems to think a paltry 16 GB internal storage is worth $100.

I have a feeling any new PS3 model that's coming will remain at $400, but that it will be a bundle of some kind. Easier to make sacrifices with software than hardware. What does seem to be true is that they're going to phase out the current model.

If there is a price break, you'll be lucky to get $50 off. Any new model will come out at the current price point and possibly a $50 cut on the old models......though I doubt it.

The PSPGo's price is because it's more of a fashion upgrade than a tech upgrade.

Electronics aren't always sold by their manufacturing price.

Well in PSPGo's case there are four other strikes against it.

- its not a very fashionable redesign
- Screen size is gimped
- You'll still end up buying more pro duo memory sticks anyway
- Digitally distributed PSP titles will go for retail price.

First two don't need explaining, third one is an inevitability unless you're just planning to download stuff like Patapon, PixelJunk, LocoRoco and LBP content.

I understand why the PSP titles will be sold at retail and I know its just to placate retailers. Hey, Steam does this too. It still holds the potential of DD back in the eyes of the consumer, though.

But if it means I might be able to download other games that have become scarce, I may be able to live with it.
