It's what comes with playing a game online when the community doesn't police itself.

One of the major reasons that FFXI's community is relatively good is the GM call function, and GMs that actually do ban people for MPKing and such.

I classify it as "talking shit" online and that's what people do in online games. Regardless it's disrespectful and goes against Sonys terms of use and everyone, including myself, should be banned if that's the case.

He's suing for a bit much though. Anything you download on the PS3 transfers over to other accounts as well. So he can just make a new name.

I agree with most of this post, though as I understand it, if you get banned from PSN, your PS3's machine ID is also banned and you can no longer log into PlayStation Network from that machine.

Report user -> GM monitors user -> etc.

And it's perfectly possible to log voice chat, it just takes more storage space. Not feasible to store it until the end of time, like a text log, but there's no reason you can't hold on to voice logs long enough for someone to report the user, and move them into longer term storage.

You can take trash talking too far and if you do you should be warned. If you repeatedly ignore those warnings then you are an idiot and deserved to be banned. Just because you are gaming online doesn't give you the right to disrespect people. If you think it does, then I truly feel sorry for you.

If I download Infamous to my main account.. It's on the PS3. So when I log on to my suib accounts it's also on there. So him suing for 55k for pain and suffering PLUS his lost games seems a little overboard. Atleasr a couple hundred of that should be taken out lol.

No he just said he couldn't access other games on his banned account. Which you can't. But of you make a sub account, you got all those DL's.

Simple fact. He's disabled. He will win this fight and , most likely settle. I know at least 3 people on PSN who have agoraphobia and mentioned the disorder before this story. He will win whether he deserves it or not.

It's highly unlikely he'll win. The First Amendment binds the government, not private parties, so you can be banned as long as its not over race/religion/etc. He just doesn't have a leg to stand on. He has no First Amendment rights enforceable against Sony. Sony will file for a motion to dismiss or, at the very least, a summary judgement. He's just a litigious little turd looking to make a fast buck.

I want to sue SE because some of the people in my party once said I was a noob because I let someone who pulled hate and got 2-hit critted die. I was very emotionally distraught by this insult and I demand justice. Because SE is totally responsible for what all 500k people who play their game say to one another and they should pay me a ton of money because I can't take a bit of rudeness.

In order to file suit at all, he had to find a lawyer who thought it was worth a shot. Since most tort lawyers work on contingency and only get paid if they win, they're not very likely to take on a case as hopeless as this one seems to be.

That's the main thing that makes me think there's more going on here than the media reported (cause that NEVER happens...)

I had a lot of issues growing up that led me to not leave the house. My fears effected me that badly. I used FFXI as a way to have friends and to not be alone. People would tell me how messed up that was and that I needed serious help... but I stay with FFXI. I met both men and women on FFXI that I now consider to be family. So... I do understand where the guy is coming from.

With that said ... I recently got a job as a GM for an MMO (that I can not say which... stupid damn nondisclosure agreements)... So I have learned a lot about how the rules are when it comes to When to Ban, When to Suspend, When to Do Nothing. And quite honestly, this is where I lose hope for this guy. You did agree to the Terms Of Service contract that allows you to play the game. Sony does hold primary possession of your account. They do have every right to suspend or terminate your usage because of that contract.

I have to laugh at this. This reminds me of the video of the kid spazzing (no insult to you Mod Spazz-lol) because mom cancelled his WoW account. Yeah... whole lotta sadness there. I've had patients with severe anxiety problems and I have no issue giving xanax, ativan, morphine...whatever the doc wrote orders for. There are meds and treatments out there to help phobias. He shot himself in the foot with this one. I hope to God it doesn't make it to court.

I saw that video and there are other videos of that guy, mainly this one where he kept getting betrayed. Video Games are serious business. I wish I would yell at my mom like that lol I'd be dead before I got the words out.
