Wow the protoss finally won one. Seemed Lee played it better, except for the money. Those force field guys are just ridiculous when played well.

Re: Starcrat 2 Battle Report 3

I still feel like the side that wins in all of these battle reports is the one that has the most new shit they are trying to show off.

That said, moving while burrowing AND mind control for the god damn win. Pretty epic use of the force fields and blink by the Protoss player too, but that Baneling ambush followed by mind controlling those two Colossi was epic.

I can't wait to play this. I don't even know which race I want to try first, so much cool shit.

Re: Starcrat 2 Battle Report 3

I hope when the protoss campaign comes out, that 6 carriers own the shit out of everything. Just something fun about systematically annihilating the zerg until all thats left is the Overmind. Also makes that final CS make less sense.

That was in the expansion pack "Revenge of the Bush."

Re: Starcrat 2 Battle Report 3

I've been hearing a lot of people bitch about Zerg being underwhelming (which is silly, coming from a bunch of people who haven't actually played the game) and no doubt, Zerg being 0/2 will just make their moaning louder.

But I must say, I'm terrified by the speed of which the Banelings went from burrowed to explodered.

And I see the mind control will be my new Broodling-level irritation. At least it's not permanent.

Final note: I want to see this UI at work. Putting down 2 force fields perfectly side-by-side in such a way as to block an entrance is more precision than Starcraft ever allowed. And they come into play simultaneously. I need to see how this game is controlled.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe it's not an active ability you place, ala Blizzard from WC3, but more like they launch it x distance in front of them in the nearest open space and you just need to aim them where you want them? Another possibility is that the game is built with a placement priority system and it finds the best place to put them with the amount of Disruptors you have.

Though I'll have to go back and look at it, another far less exciting (but much more likely) possiblity is that the abilities are not range limited and you can tell them to put down the force fields they will book it to where they need to be and place it. So just tell your two/three/whatever Disruptors to move forward, then start placing the force fields and they will move to where they need to be to place them.

Or maybe David Kim is a micro-freak as some people are, able to hotkey and click abilities at lightning speed (I know a guy who's like that and it's scary to watch him play the original SC; I never could beat him)

Like Psionic Storm. You can click 2 different Templar and have them both on the move to a location where their chosen storm area will be in range.

However, That's pretty heavy on the micro. I don't want to have to have super ridiculous fingers to have my army behave like they have brains. It's my biggest problem with Starcraft: Action bottleneck. if you include UI stuff that makes it easier to micro, people will say "that makes the game too easy" but that's like saying allowing you to shoot or reload while aiming would make RE5 too easy. Heads up: it only serves to make me irritable.

Re: Starcrat 2 Battle Report 3

When I was at blizzcon and and playing StarCraft 2 (Last year, not going this year /sad), I won most of my matches playing Zerg, if I can find my record around here I'll let you know.

The Zerg are in no way underpowered, the zerg player here in my opnion just didn't keep up the resource battle, he was outplayed, again.

Based on comparisons with pro level SC1, I actually think Zerg does look underwhelming, though obviously I'm only speculating as I haven't actually played the game and even if I had, I'm terrible at SC so any personal play testing would be invalid.

It just seems like the Zerg economy still relies on expansion advantage but their early and mid game is weaker, which means they can't establish map control and out-expand the opponent like they should. In pro SC the Protoss seem to always follow any early Zealot disruption with heavy turtling until they get Corsair/Reaver or Corsair/Dark Templar or just timing attack the crap out of the opponent, who until then should have been containing the Protoss.

Likewise, the Terran can't play nearly as aggressively in SC1 TvZ because if they start sending groups of units out onto the map early on, Mutalisks will mop them up with ease.

It seems like Zerg just doesn't have the mobility advantage it used to have while other races can still employ similar strategies to SC1. Of course, the Terran Siege Tank requires higher tech this time around, however, that unit is rarely a heavily produced one in the SC1 TvZ matchup, anyway.

Pro SC players play at around 300-500 average APM (actions per minute). David Kim is a very skilled player, but he's far from being the cream of the crop and I doubt he's nearly as fast.
