A. Looks more like a hume/taru mix than a hume/mithra. The nose is the only thing that looks different from a normal hume, and it could easily be a taru nose, too. And nothing close to mithra ears.
B. Pic is atleast a couple years old, clothes are also pretty much direct graphical updates of current FFXI armor designs.
C. Like most other people here, I just don't see it happening. A "create your own race" would be bound to cause graphical problems.

SE has been known to have mixed races in past games, but they've all been NPCs. If they use the old system, it would be very difficult to create a variant for every hybrid race, giving a huge amount of character models and stat balancing. But if they go with the slider system used in recent games, it shouldn't be hard to implement at all.

FFXIV could have the same character creation setup as FFXI for all I care, if the game play is improved (this includes all aspects btw like equipment and battle system, along with storage and AH), and the story just as good, that's enough to sell it to me at least.

Slider or not, SE will most likely go with one race per region method. Trust me they will. And there's no point in doing that if you can just frankenstein whatever mix of races you want. Plus that really just feels odd. Maybe a slider system tied to each race, where you could make a fat mithra or a giraffe mithra. But nothing mixing mithra ears and tail with galka face and elvaan body frame.

Part of beating the competition is acknowledging what they got right and improving upon it. There's nothing wrong with not wanting your face to be identical to somebody else's. Even if the difference is slight, it's better than having copy-pasted faces everywhere.

well I agree there, that was the only thing I hated about FFXI was the limited face sets. But, at the same time, story and mechanics are much more important.

Wait, I have no idea why you are arguing with me. What's wrong with taking a mechanic that SO many people love in games (to be unique) and improving upon it. Of course this game isn't Aion or WoW, but guess what? It's an MMO just like them. So what's wrong with that mechanic.

Sure story mechanics and the like are something that needs a lot of work on, however you underestimate how big the development team is and what resources they can use. Also having the ability to customise and be unique in a player base of possibly in the millions is a VERY important aspect - games aren't all about story either.

as in you could have the best character creation system in the world, but if the story is horrible, and the game mechanics are poor, the game would still suck.


by the way the devs sounded I am sure FFXIV will improve on everything FFXIV has done over the years, it will be a good game.

FFXI isn't WoW or Aion or EQ, but a more customizable character wouldn't be a bad idea. Atleast with facial features.. But really it doesn't matter cause in the end your armor covers you most the time and no one really pays attention to your face anyway. No!! Being able to take a picture of your face, or whatever face you want, and it generating your character to look like the picture. That. Would be neat.

yeah I agree, and I really dout SE would make the character creation just like FFXI.... no one is THAT stupid ;p (although I wonder about SE sometimes)

When that question was asked, the answer SE gave made it sound like the character creation would be different from FFXI, but you would have the ability to make a face similar to your old one in FFXI.

Well Galkas are bigfoot looking creatures.. Bigfoot resembles a Gorilla.. Gorillas manhoods are only bout the size of an average mans pinky.. Think about it. Plus my sisters Pomeranian had a surprisingly large manhood O.O No homo..

Yes that's exactly what I been tellin people on the other forums about this race mixing. There's going to be something more to character creation.. They said it without saying it.
