Still had good story and character development for two characters I was interested in learning more about. FFVII didn't really do a great job of covering Reeve or Vincent that much. Yes, Yuffie grates on your last nerve - that's because she's supposed to be an annoyance.

Re: 360 version of FFXIII unlikely to have Japanese voice track. Uh... doesn't that i

I don't think anyone has ever said they wouldn't like English dubs included on games. As long as it isn't at the expense of not including the original sound that is.

And Metal Gear has always been mentioned as an exception, as the only reason it has had decent dubbing is because it was always treated like a movie. Whereas ZoE and so many other games were given the Bugs treatment*. I don't know why it is so difficult to understand.

Also, the themes in FF games maybe be western-ish but the attitudes from the characters are 100% japanese. Which is why the original sound makes more sense most of the time.

Either way, if people just translated the material instead of localizing it the problem would be much milder, but they don't. Example:

And people from southern Japan are written with American southern accents.
This is one of the main reasons I dislike games like this. It isn't only about the crappy pronunciation of names, but also about how they rewrite most of the material to "localize it" at the expense on diluting the original content. Japan may have been "enamored" with Western trends, but that doesn't make it an american game.

So trying to force southern US accents, mannerisms, and the such instead of translating what is actually being said usually results in a complete change of the character of the story.

Now, I can understand there are people who would actually prefer it that way even if it diverts so much from the original mood, but there should always be an option for players to listen to their preferred sound instead of forcing one onto the player/viewer.

*Already covered in another post of mine.

Edit > Now let me give you an example of the oposite:

A Detective story from the Animatrix.

Go watch it in englsh, then watch it in Japanese. You'll notice the Japanese language completely misses the point and ruins the mood of the story.

Question is : Why?

And that's your homework for today.

Yes, pretty much. I've never met anyone with fond memories of Dirge; people associate bad with bad.

Square Enix “Aiming” For Three Disc FFXIII 360 |

"With the overwhelming power it will take to run Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will ship on multiple discs, as previously thought.

“This is not the final count as we’re still working on it, but we’re aiming for about three discs for the Xbox 360 version,” he stated when talking about the number of discs. After that, he then when on to assure that the two versions of the game will be practically identical, although he did concede that there will be “subtle differences” between the two.

“The 360 version and the PS3 version should be pretty much equal, both in terms of content and the visuals as well,” he continued. ”Since the hardware is different, there might be some subtle differences if you compare screenshots side by side, but the team’s being very careful about the compression of the data and the visuals, so that it’s exactly the same on both.”

Really in the one place equality does not matter, and SE seems to eat it up like fries.....

Why do they have to always "have it equal" on all platforms -.- I plan on getting the 360 version, but I think its silly, to try and make them both look the same..... it would not have killed them to design it for PS3 first, and make it look as pretty as they can. Then "dumb it down" some what for the 360.

Eh, whatever. It still looks insanely fucking pretty no matter how you slice it. I mean, it's taking up three discs, how much less pretty can it look?

FFVII has aged horribly and it's still heralded as the FF to end all FFs. Kidding! Kind of. You know what I mean. And hell, FFIV had damned crude graphics compared to many other SNES RPGs and people still had heart attacks over the DS version's announcement. This really shouldn't be worth bitching over.

It is true - FFVII has not aged well at all. I can even say FFVIII and FFIX aged well, but not FFVII. FFX, FFX-2 are still fairly easy on the eyes - save for the low res face-switching anyway - and FFXII is still a treat to look at. The only thing FFVII aged better than was the first three Final Fantasy games, all of which got remade and look better now.

I'm sure it will get remade eventually, but it better not be before FFV and FFVI get a turn.

I'm pretty pleased with the FFIV remake thus far, the Augment system is nice, the acting is well-done and they take some nice twists and turns on the old boss fights that I wasn't expecting - though it would have been a crime to change the Magus Sisters, so they didn't. I initially didn't like the guy playing Cid, but there's a point in the game where he really does bring out the heart of that character

I would like to see FFV and FFVI get a turn on DS as well. I realize FFIV was just part of the 20th Anniversery project, but at least that IGN interview let SE know people want these two remade.
