Star Craft 2 Q&A

Battle.net - English Forums -> Karune Q&A Batch Archive

Since the actual site has been horribly slow to update, I figured I'd post this here for anyone who's keeping tabs on this game.

Also, I'd like to point out a recent tidbit regarding recent changes to the Zerg Queen;

Quote:
  • Build Creep Tumor: with a mighty push from her bowels, the Queen creates a cluster of organic tumors that generate additional creep. In recent months the Zerg have mutated to move more quickly on creep, making this an important function for the Queen.

Will players be able to select multiple buildings simultaneously?

We are directing much attention to polishing and improving the user interface. On that note, players will definitely be able to select and build from multiple buildings at the same time. You cannot drag-select buildings, but you can shift-click on them and add them to a control-group for ease of unit production.

That's just freaking awesome. Hotkey a group of barracks and churn out marines! >;3

I doubt they mean bowels in a literal sense.

And, that's what I disliked most about SC. It was simply a production war. I really wish they would limit how many units you're able to produce to bring back a little strategy.

Re: Star Craft 2 Q&A

Knowing Blizzard, the whole game will be paying homage to old pop culture. My zealots will be yelling 'Thundercats, Ho!' and my marines will keep telling me it's morphin' time.

What game were you playing?

And I'm sure it's in the literal sense. Blizzard is meticulous in the little details, and the Zerg are basically organic weapons...

I really hope that Beta comes out this year.

Re: Star Craft 2 Q&A

Producing units is an aspect of the game with a low skill ceiling. If one player is keeping up continuous production and the other keeps letting his resources idle then obviously strategy is going to play a very minimal part in determining who wins.

Do you know what a pain in the ass it is to constantly jump back and forth from the battlefield to monitor your base production? Hot-keying buildings is going to make this so much easier.

I don't know about you but when I have a fight on my hands I don't want to take my eyes off it for a second. For all I know in that split moment I'm not looking my guys could be getting eaten by a Psionic Storm.

Yay, easier mindless production wars. Sweet.

Make sure you set the rally points to where the battle is so your 1000 marines can march and kill anything on the way over there.

You could always hotkey buildings, you just had to assign each a separate hotkey. But I wasn't arguing with you. I was responding to Dak's assertion that the game was just a production war and low on strategy. Unit production is the very basics of the game. Of course if one or both of the players hasn't mastered the basics then you're going to see that weigh in to who wins more than any attempt at strategy. If you ever watch pro players' replays you see them reach the population cap very quickly and then the game becomes much more about map control, micromanagement, choosing proper counters and fighting on your own terms as much as possible. Very much about actual strategy and tactics rather than just a production war.

Re: Star Craft 2 Q&A

Exactly. If I see a wave of zerglings coming at me for example, I'm going to stop whatever the hell I was doing and try to pump out as many firebats ASAP because marines (and sadly siege tanks) will get slaughtered.

Well, the tanks not so much if I have the high ground and something to bar the 'lings path but it doesn't take them long to shred a tank once they're in attack range.
