Re: How to pretend some of these games never happened.

I wish I could thank you a million times. I hadn't laughed so hard at a fighting game in my life. It's like they took the broken things about Street Fighter III and Capcom VS SNK 2 and merged them into a single game. Too bad they didn't throw Marvel VS Capcom 2 into the mix to seal the deal. =P

Re: How to pretend some of these games never happened.

My theory on FFVIII is they made all the badass cutscenes first, then shuffled them and tailored the plot around connecting them.

I probably wouldn't have hated Chrono Cross so much if not for the Chrono part. If it had been a standalone game it would have been decent enough. Bill it as the successor to one of the best if not the all time best game in the genre and it looks like a steaming pile compared to your expectations.

I agree 100%. As I played it, I was comparing it to Chrono Trigger and I was severely disappointed. I stopped playing it. I talked with some friends and they convinced me to rename the game and then play it. So I did and I loved it.

Re: How to pretend some of these games never happened.

I never really had a problem with FFVIII, but then, I wasn't someone who played FFVII then set really, really high expectations for VIII, I've never really approached the series chronologically.

FFVIII really just had a bit of an airheaded story. They brought back that "we're all orphans raised by Cid and some lady are we just somehow forgot that" bit that happened in FFIII, too. The Junction system was perhaps too sophisticated for newer RPG players, but I really liked it and thought the game was better than FFVII in terms of minigames, sidequests and overall gameplay. Plus the engine ran a lot cleaner and felt faster.

And it had Gilgamesh.

That is exactly what I ended up doing with Disgaea 2.

We STILL don't have a release date announced for Disgaea 3 in the UK so I have no idea what i think of that yet

Never played CT, because when I was younger (i.e. when it was released) I wasn't really that hardcore into gaming. CC was my first, and I adored it. I tried to play CT a few years ago and got bored pretty quickly. I never did finish it.

Not because of the 'it looks old' syndrome, because Dragon Quest V has to be my favorite game of all time. I just... couldn't get into it. Maybe I should try again someday.

The Adventures of Captain Silence and his One Thousand Weird Friends.

Probably not one thousand but screw you.

I liked Chrono Cross, I never saw it as a sequel to CT, more like what FF2 is to FF1... a different game by the same name.

It'd be really cool if they made more Chrono grames, where its all the same kind of world where you can go back and forth in time, but the story and characters always differ.

Also, once we have a rebooted Chrono series, I demand that SE publish a FINAL CHRONO QUEST crossover. it.

HAHA, I agree about the "Chrono Cross is to Chrono Trigger as FF2 is to FF1."

Once I got that part in my mind I really enjoyed Chrono Cross.

As for the junction system and all that in FFVIII, I did enjoy junction and draw, what I mainly hated was the story and the weapon system.... you had to like find items and have each weapon made right? Yeah... HAHA hated it. Then again I started playing the FF series on the nes with 1, and I haven't missed a title yet =)

I would even go as far as to say that Mystic Quest had a better story!

Here is another for the list:

Halo Series

I never understood why Halo became so popular.. call me old school but I was bored to death, and had played more exciting multiplayer fps games with timesplitters on console, and about any other fps on the pc. I was just not impressed.

To forget about this horrible series and love your fps on the console, I suggest playing some timesplitters, put on 1 hit kill, and use bricks as your only weapon. OR you could just play a good online fps like half-life, tf2, or CoD.
