News broke late last night that SCEA and Naughty Dog were ready to unveil the sequel to 2007's acclaimed UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune. Turns out, the Spike Video Game Awards 2008 will play host to premiere footage of a number of games, including SCEA Santa Monica's GOD OF WAR 3, EA's FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4, and Double Fine's BRUTAL LEGEND. In addition, we'll get to see previews for new GEARS OF WAR 2 DLC, MAFIA II, and 3 secret titles.

A teaser for the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves reveal was released last night as well, showcasing the next setting for the game. The trailer features series protagonist Nathan Drake sporting his trademark half-tuck trudging through snowy terrain, battered and bruised. He comes across an artifact in the snow, which happens to be a dagger associated with Tibetan Buddhism called a phurba. Game Informer's January issue holds the first exclusive coverage of the game, and says that Naughty Dog will be adding some new gameplay mechanics, including a free-climbing system and some much needed stealth gameplay options. No release date is mentioned so far, but it's likely Naughty Dog's next will ship in fall 2009.

The Spike VGAs premiere on December 14th at 9PM, so it's unlikely we'll get footage online of these games until the show is over that night. I'm really looking forward to seeing this game, along with GOD OF WAR III and BRUTAL LEGEND.

And that's pretty cool. I saw the adds for Uncharted 2 at GT a few days ago but heard nothing of the VGA thing! ;3


Apparently (according to an article on Joystiq) GoW 3 looks like nothing we've ever seen. All I ask is that it be the most violent game ever. I didn't think anything could top GoW 2 but then EA came along with Dead Space <_<

God of War and Uncharted, they are currently at 6.5/10 on my expectation scale (10 was MGS4 of course with ZOE 3 at 8/10)

Resistance 2 was good as well but atm I'm absolutely hating it... feels like Insomniac did nothing at all to fix the competitive from the first game. People will still repeatedly spawn directly behind you, your radar doesn't work for shit, melee kills are nearly impossible to get unless it's from behind, the controls are stupid (why R3 for melee, WHY THE FUCK RIGHT STICK FOR MELEE!) if you reload there's no way to cancel the animation and perhaps most infuriating of all this is run on sentence that shall end with my damnation of the utterly fucking useless shotgun because machine guns are the way to go waht the fuck.

There are some games (the last of them being GTA 4 for PC) that can't be shipped to MX by most retailers. Gamestop is supposed to be able to send all games here but the catch is for some reason they are unable to charge my card, even though all the other online retailers I buy from have no problems at all.

Fortunately I'm usually able to get games eventually, it just takes some time.

You can change the controls however you'd like. And remember that you'll only see enemies on the radar if they're firing a weapon or running. It's not like the first game where humans had more powerful radar detection than Chimera. Change your weapon or alt-fire mid-reload and it will cancel the reload.

Shotgun definitely beats Carbine/Bullseye/Marksman at close range; if you know how to handle it, it even beats out the Splicer at close range. It's a little less powerful than in R1 but the rate of fire is higher and the alt-fire packs more punch. Aim properly, fire primary once and secondary once and that should do the job. It could stand to be stronger; I've felt that way since beta, but it's not horrible. Carbine remains slightly overpowered compared to other mid-range weapons though. Currently my favourite weapons to use are the Bellock and Splicer.

About GOD OF WAR III, David Jaffe said it looks "like a painting come to life." This is Jaffe however, and his internet personality is similar to that of the average GameFAQs poster. Regardless, GOD OF WAR II is the best looking game on the PS2. Chains of Olympus is the best looking game on the PSP. There's probably a pattern here and it's unlikely that SCEA Santa Monica will let us down.

It sounds like both weapoms (Carbine and Shotgun) are pretty much the same as they were in the last game.

Did they add any normal handguns this time around?

The Magnum is powerful but slow. After firing the bullets stay lodged in the ground or enemy, and alt-fire detonates the bullets like a remote mine.

Just about every time I get close to someone they waste me in seconds with the carbine. I even snuck up on one guy, fired the double barrel shot and BEAT HIM and he still turned around and killed me.

I don't care what you say, the gameplay in this is nowhere near as balanced as Halo 3 or Gears of War 2. And what the fuck, why hasn't Insomniac still fixed the spawn issues... getting real tired of people spawning behind me and 1-shotting me.


Also, I would argue that Crisis Core is in fact the best looking game on PSP >_>


Magnum sucks. Fired two rounds into a guy and detonated both, still killed me...

Magnum/mine-thrower sounds interesting.

I'm a Carbine guy myself, but didn't get to really play online on the first one. Maybe if I get 2 soon enough I'll be able to join the fun.

It takes 3 body shots and detonations to kill someone with the Magnum. And yeah, you can shake them off.

I knew of Uncharted 2, but GoW 3 as well? Damn, I am LOVING my PS3 right now. It took em long enough, but PS3 finally has some muscle to work with.

Ya I usually end up with 2 of each system, one for upstairs and one for down. And if its a really great system, I import a JP one too. I had not bought my 2nd PS3 until a couple days ago. I've had two 360's and Wii's for a while now. It's taken some time but I finally have seen that its worth investing into. (Well that and I got a great deal. 80gb PS3 with Uncharted <already have> for $299)

Anyway back on topic, I never did play uncharted so I can't form any kind of opinion on it.

I just wonder how GoW3 will open. I'm sure people here know/remember how 2 ended, and I highly doubt they will start things off with you slaying the Gods >_>
