Sonic: Night of the Werehog (short film)

Posted it under video games because it's related to Sonic Unleashed (which I still haven't played).

Anyways, I'm still not too fond of the whole werehog thing, but I loved this short movie (especially a certain character... <3). Perhaps the best thing Sega's done since Sonic CD's anime intro/ending. You can see it at a higher quality by clicking on it by the way.

Is the ghosty girl artwork from your avatar from the Sonic Unleashed game, or is it fanwork? It is pretty stunning =).

Sega fails.

And this didn't change my opinion, it made it a little worse.

Sorry everyone :p

cute video, cant wait to try the game out, but unless they give a good reason as to why he "hulks out" then I wont be happy -.- on the same note, the new engine they are using could be great

I think it was established from the very first trailers it's because Eggman trapped him and used some machine on him during an encounter. You know, the trailers where that screenshot of Sonic's totally fugly/lol-worthy horror expression came from.

I wouldn't know for sure, though, still haven't played it. I've heard that daylight stages are classic and awesome but that the werehog stages are button-mashy and make you want to get through them quickly to go back to the normal Sonic stages. Even if the game sucks, though, I have to admit I like the visuals...

The people look very Pixar. The little eskimo girl actually reminds me a little bit of Lilo from Lilo & Stitch.

Re: Sonic: Night of the Werehog (short film)

I do have a heart. It likes nice things.

Sonic used to be cool when he was 2D, he had an emeny (leaving this for luls) and some friends, I didnt like the games much be he was charismatic, that was it.

Ghosts? Turning into a werehog? Cute girlies...? Whats next, zombies, maybe a free-roaming game, maybe even an MMORPG? With zombies and ghosts and monthly fees.

Sonic is still trying to be Mario, hasn't he learned from Mario's failure?

When you milk the cow until it turns purple, it stops being fun, it starts getting old.

ps, I know it SELLS, that doesn't mean it doesn't fail, for sonic OR mario.

There's a certain nostalgia that gets robbed from you by the developers when they pull this on their mascots, you used to know Sonic and Mario they were familiar and cool, now theyre all next-gen and pimpin, lacking in passion bunch of pixels, trying to get the appreciation and love they had before.

Re: Sonic: Night of the Werehog (short film)

Uh...? Since when has Sonic tried to be Mario? The whole point of Sonic the Hedgehog originally was to provide fast gameplay that the SNES couldn't imitate. Even after the transition into 3D the emphasis has always been on speed, not exploration and precision jumping/wallkicking/whatever.

Your argument is kinda like saying "fuck new things, they should stick to what worked, forever and ever." Granted, ever since Sammy bought Sega, the Sonic franchise has gone straight to hell but that's something completely separate from the fact that they're trying new things. Almost every Sonic game has introduced new characters and concepts. Sonic 2? A flying fox, a biplane, a Star Wars scenario. Sonic CD? Sonic's annoying, Tarot-reading, wannabe girlfriend, Metal Sonic and time travel. Sonic 3and Knuckles? A gliding echidna on a floating island. Knuckles' Chaotix? An armadillo, crocodile, chameleon and bee. Sonic Adventure's new character is a big fucking fat cat, an Eggman robot, and the bad guy is a water god...thing. Sonic Adventure 2 introduced Rouge the Bat and Shadow. Sonic Advance 2 introduced Cream the Rabbit.

The ghost thing isn't even unheard of, there was an Egyptian-themed stage in Sonic & Knuckles (this being back when Sonic was still 2D) that had ghosts chasing you inside a pyramid. The film likely doesn't even cover anywhere near the whole scope of the game, so it's silly to judge the game based on that. As far as I know you travel to many different continents. Granted, this whole Werehog with rubber arms business is pretty lame but that's besides the point.

That aside, the main thing here is that the post is about the short film. It's kinda tangential to start saying "the new games suck, Sonic's really been going downhill" since that doesn't have much to do with whether or not the short film was good.

Re: Sonic: Night of the Werehog (short film)

I won't comment on the new game, as there are far too many opinionated voices here. But as a short CG film, that was incredibly brilliant and I'd give anything to be able to put that on my resume/showreel, because technically and creatively it was excellent.

Re: Sonic: Night of the Werehog (short film)

Yes, fuck new things if they tarnish what was once great. They shouldn't just stick to what works, they should just stop coming up with this garbage, if they're gonna do something, make it good, not half-interesting material. I'm not even that much of a Sonic fan (I actually dislike it more than not) but if I was I'd QQ about poor quality and demand good content, I wouldn't stand for this shit!

Yellow Mage, you could stick a Mario title on a poo and it would still be sold out on release day. Same is true with Final Fantasy, GTA, and maybe some other names.

I am in a pissy mood! /push

Sorry for derail
