My Mood: | New DS Announced Nintendo Announce New DS: The Nintendo DSi ![]() "During their Fall Press Conference today, Nintendo have - as expected - announced a new version of the Nintendo DS. Called the Nintendo DSi, it eschews the GBA slot (boo!) in favour of a slight downsizing (it's a little thinner) and a range of improvements. The handheld's screens have been enlarged, and will now be 17% bigger (at 3.25 inches) than those found on the DS Lite. As for the rumoured additions, both have proven to be correct, with "audio enhancements" made to the handheld, while it will also now include a .3 megapixel (640x480) camera. And that's just the start of it. The DSi also features an SD memory card slot, making it possible to take pictures with the DSi and then view them on the Nintendo Wii. The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi. For digital delivery purchases, there is a DSi Shop, from which users can download DSiWare from. Pricing categories for the DSiWare are: Free, 200 points, 500 points and "Premium" or 800 points. Customers will get 1000 free points to spend at the DSi Shop that are good until March 2010. The DSi will be released in Japan on November 1. It will retail for ¥18,900 (USD$180), and will be available in two colours, white and black. It will be released in other markets sometime "next year". _____________________ Personally, I rarely used the GBA slot (pre EZFlash) so to me its no big deal. But yet, a camera is also no big deal to me. I have an awesome Coolpix camera and my cell has one too so I usually have a camera on me at all times. I guess this camera is aimed more so at a younger audience that might not have such devices available to them yet. The bigger screen and SD Card for d/l'ing games does appeal to me. Of course the JP version is out asap as the rest of us sit and wait. I for one will be importing and I'll let you all know what I think of it.

Who the hell would wanna take pictures with a DS for viewing it on the Wii? Don't even tell me younger owners of this DSi, because most cell phones today come with a camera. That idea just seems stupid to me. Does the SD slot let you save game progress? If not... Isn't this a gaming device? && How many games do you think will actually utilize the voice feature? No wait. How many gamers do you think(considering the fact this is a handheld), are going to be talking to a portable gaming machine out in public? Nintendo fails. |

My Mood: | Re: New DS Announced http://blip.tv/play/gb1B0M1Ejflk Video of the "DSi" in action. (The small square device you see aimed at the DSi early in the video is a previously announced Pedometer. It will probably be a periphrial that will be released with some type of fitness game.) FYI, my comment about "younger audience" was aimed at children in the 8-12 range that would want a DS. Most kids at this age do not have access to expensive digital cameras or cell phones. So yes, I do believe its aimed more at that age bracket. As I said, the SD card is probably for d/ling games so of course the saves would be subsequently saved on the SD card. And don't you think its a bit early for "Nintendo fails" if the device hasn't even been released yet? Unless of course you are some Sony or MS fanboy and everything of Nintendo is a "fail" to you. EDIT: Also just up (should answer your question): 2008 Nintendo Fall Press Conference: Save Wii Games Direct To SD Card (Starting Spring 2009) "Finally. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has just announced that, beginning in Spring 2009 (at least for Japan), Nintendo Wii owners will be able to download software directly to an SD card. "We have to address the console's insufficient memory storage," said Iwata, speaking at today's Nintendo Fall Press Conference. This obviously applies only to WiiWare and Virtual Console games, but hey, since they were the things clogging up your memory in the first place, it's hard to see this as anything other than good news. Not perfect news, but still, better than silence."

They said it was not just for the camera function, but for Downloadable content they called DSiWare. Its safe to assume this is a similar concept to the WiiWare released on the Wii and if they're going to get rid of the GBA slot for anything, it had better be something of that nature. Quote:
I'm just wondering when both Sony and Nintendo are going to stop revamping these things. Guess I'll be holding out for repurchasing a DS a little while longer.

The "Free" thing is what really interests me. DS PDA is the most obvious thing there, after the DS demo service. But offering demos "for free" doesn't make sense in Nintendo's system, really. I'm not sold on it, but I'm very interested. ______________________________ ![]() Also, there's TWO cameras. The one on the back of the DS, and one pointing towards you (similar to the microphone already there) I've also heard mention that they intend to use this it for some gameplay, so it's not just a matter of putting a cheap digital camera on it for the sake of a cheap digital camera. I'm not a fanboy of any sort. I bought a Wii because I was excited/intrigued about/by it... I was, however, very disappointed with it. Being that the Wii was Nintendo's "next big thing"... And to have me so disappointed in it... Forgive me if I'm reluctant to catch onto their ideas for upcoming gaming devices. Most 8-12 year olds whose moms would put up money for a brand new DSi, who already have a DS, do have cell phones... Because they are spoiled. @GrandMom in regards to that latest news post... That's the Wii. Not this DSi thing. So, no. That doesn't answer my question. @BBQKitten The DS may have MORE games... But, the PSP, imo(and for my taste), has BETTER games. The 'voice' thing is nothing new. The DS lite already has a mic on it. I know plenty of people that used it for Brain Age and the Phoenix Wright games. Remember, the cool thing about Nintendo (at times) is it isn't just the gamers they're attracting.

Ok, these are MATTE colours. No more shiny, fingerprint magnet DS. Up until now, I had cautious optimism. Now, I am like FUCK YES and I am going to sell my Lite in anticipation. |

Ding! Ding! Ding! Sony Fanboy! (Fyi, I am a fanboy of no system, I own them all and multiples of them. I'm an avid gamer with an addiction. But one thing I can say is that the DS currently beats the snot out of the PSP....unless you mod your PSP which does not count for the subject at hand.)

You can't call somebody a Fan Boy just because they like the games on one system more than the games on the other. That's stupid and childish. I actually own a PSP and a DS. A 360 and a Wii. So, get off the fanboy sh*t, you a*shole. Quote:
Also. The article you posted still said nothing about the DSi. ... Quote:

And thats not what I meant. I did not mean previously owning a DS, I meant 8-12 yr old range that would want a DS. Yes, it wasn't worded exactly right but I thought you'd get the jist of it. /facepalm

Whatev. YellowMage. What 2 things. GMa. Somebody saying they prefer one system over the other is PREFERENCE... Not to be confused with loyalty to the company that makes the system they prefer. It has nothing to do with someone being a "fanboy". Just because I prefer one system over the next does NOT mean I prefer one company over another. If Nintendo had new features on this DSi that I was interested in, I would consider buying it... But, since it doesn't...I'm not going to upgrade my own. I will just keep the one I have. Quote:
Not a mind reader, you know. Furthermore. You need to get off your high horse... Instigating somebody to flame by name calling/insulting intelligence just because they don't agree with you... Then sending them an infraction when you get flamed? Gimme a GD break. Last edited by Zoryn; 10-02-2008 at 01:36 PM.

Preference is not fanboyism but when you prefer one system over another and it leads you to say: That is. Quote:
