This, minus calling them M$ because I happen to not live ten years ago.

Honestly, who cares? This keeps FF13 from hurting SE's pockets (if MGS4 and GTA4 don't cause the PS3 to start selling well on a consistent basis, FF13 sure as hell isn't going to) like it otherwise could've. It doesn't keep PS3 users from enjoying the game; especially if they decide to multidisk the 360 release. And honestly, there are still plenty of reasons to want a PS3 over a 360; such as BluRay, RROD, not being made by Microsoft, SCEA games, and so on. If someone didn't already want a PS3, making FF13 PS3 exclusive would only serve to twist their arms about it.

Re: My desire for a PS3 is now <10 (E3 2008)

Mal has a point though, SE is known for developing for the lowest common denominator, so it could end up hurting the PS3 version unless they are willing to develop fully for the PS3 and then scaling it down for the 360 (by making it multidisk and other things like that.)

I highly doubt SE would scrap the work they have so far just to port it to another console, anyway.

Re: My desire for a PS3 is now <10 (E3 2008)

Maybe not scrap, but scaling it down, for instance reducing the quality of cutscenes trying to make it fit in one disk, that's the kind of things I'm worried about.

I hope that's not the case though, but it makes me wonder. >_<

And why the hell would they take the time to do that to the PS3 version anyway?

Re: My desire for a PS3 is now <10 (E3 2008)

The same reason they don't want to add all the improvements the windower (XI) has or improve the PC version with things like custom GUI.

The only thing that makes me doubt they would scale the PS3 version down is there isn't going to be a 360 version for Japan, so I don't think they would mess with the PS3 version of the game.

Because FF13 is an online game, and they think it's important that all versions share the same client? Or because they're too lazy to make a new GUI for FF13?

Re: My desire for a PS3 is now <10 (E3 2008)

There's a big difference between not wanting to put in extra features that haven't been made yet for a particular console, and taking away from what's already been created on a particular console. If they already have the graphic quality up to a certain level on the PS3, there's no reason to dumb it down to match the 360's graphical quality. It's actually more work.

Also, for FFXI there was also the consideration of trying to treat all players equally for the sake of game balance. Such things matter not for an offline console game.

Exactly my point. Gameplay won't take a hit from this, but audio and visuals will. I don't want epic MGS4-like graphics for the sake of having them. In most games they really are just eye candy, but when you're trying to tell an epic story, like or not you can't deny it helps.

Plus, SE is known for pushing the limits of consoles, and they said back when they announced FF13 that they were very anxious about seeing just what they could do with it. Well, now they have 1 of 2 choices;

Go crazy will all kinds of extras that the 360 won't have because of storage limits, or the more likely option of scaling the project down from they were originally going to do so that it's virtually the same on both consoles.

And the VA they use is getting better and better as evidenced by Crisis Core and FF4. It saddens me that Hideo Kojima was able to go nuts and actually have to cut content from MGS4 due to disc size limits, and yet SE won't even get the chance. I'm pissed off from a quality and content standpoint, not childish fanboyism.

You're assuming that game makers actually filled DVDs to max.

Most didn't with CD, they didn't with DVD, why would Blu-Ray be any different?

More storage space does not mean more game.

Aka "Oh noes, teh sky is falling! Teh sky is falling!"

SE isn't going to cut content from their PS3 version to match the Xbox version because the PS3 version will be released first in japan. Why would they reduce the quality of their game when releasing it on a single platform in their home country long before it comes to our shores? Hell, I doubt they were even going to do the staggered release thing with this game until Microsoft threw tons of cash at them to try and get a simultanious release in NA/EU. The PS3 version of this game won't be affected, but the 360 version will.

I can just picture Microsoft throwing giant wads of cash at SE's feet for some reason...
