If it is in fact a prequel, that's not really the direction I expected them to go with the next Portal game, but given that they're probably not ready technologically to implement the portal gun in an outdoor environment, which a direct sequel would practically necessitate, it makes sense. They could take the opportunity to show some backstory on that Aperture Science ship they reference in the Halflife 2 episodes. I wonder if I could pull off a believable voice for that guy ...

I dunno, there's a freeware game in development called Portalized, that can do a bunch of things that you think would take far more power than Portal uses.

You'll play the role of the rat man and will have to leave all those messages on the Portal levels. You'll also fall in love with your companion cube which will be voiced by Chi's seiyuu.
