The time has come!

MGS4 finally has a (epic) release date.

On June 12th (a Thursday), SCEA and Konami will launch the next in the epic (re: way too huge) line of PLAYSTATION 3 SKUs.

The epic 80GB MGS4 PS3 Bundle will feature an 80GB PS3 (presumably a new hardware, not the same motherboard featured in the somewhat-epic MotorStorm model), a DUAL SHOCK 3 controller, and METAL GEAR SOLID 4: Guns of the Patriots, the epic opus from Hideo Kojima. This was just announced at Destination PlayStation, Sony's annual, but not epic, event for retailers only.



Also announced was a pretty epic blood-red PSP bundle featuring GOD OF WAR: Chains of Olympus and uh...SuperBad. Sony sure knows their demographics. An epic image of Kratos will be forever emblazoned on the back of the system, Darth Vader-style.



The DUAL SHOCK 3 will launch separately on April 15th (the day before Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the Epic Driving Simulator) for (ick) $54.99. You can currently import the controller from various sites for roughly the same price, in 2 (soon to be 3) colours. Unfortunately, that's a pretty epic price.

METAL GEAR SOLID 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final mission of the iconic game hero, Old (formerly Solid) Snake, and takes him on a journey to Europe, South America, the middle east, hired to kill his brother, Liquid Ocelot, who plans to use the world's Private Military Contractors to take over the world and create the world envisioned by Commander Gene and Big Boss, Outer Heaven.

Sounds pretty epic.

Why is Sony still trying to push UMD? The PSP does great without its less than helpful help.
I'm guessing MGS4 is debuting the same day as the bundle?
I'll probably buy one DS3 controller, I prefer the weight of the dual shock controllers, but thats it, everyone else can use the regular Sixaxis controllers.

As has been announced previously, MGS4 will include a Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack.” If you can’t wait to try out MGS4, the good news is you don’t have to much longer. Those who pre-order the game will be guaranteed access to a multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online scheduled for late April.

The red PSP also includes a voucher to download Syphon Filter: Combat Ops from the PlayStation Store for free.

Also what do you mean new hardware? Was something wrong with the Motorcross PS3 hardware?

DS3 feels a helluva lot better than DS2 and SIXAXIS. It's nothing particular but the face buttons, the triggers (especially L2 and R2) feel much more responsive, and the control sticks feel a lot tighter and more comfortable. It's hard to describe until you get it in your hands. It's a godsend compared to SIXAXIS.

Nothing was wrong with the hardware bundled with MotorStorm, but since then Sony's been pretty crazy with reshuffling hardware packages and canceling production on units altogether. When the MotorStorm bundle was discontinued, most people presumed they would be cutting out BC and working with the same motherboard seen in the 40GB model to streamline unit production. BC has not been cut but Sony is officially calling the hardware "similar" to what was seen in the previous bundle...which could mean nothing or could allude to some minor changes to the hardware for cost reduction and power management. We'll find out when they ship the unit and we can see its specs...but I for one find it pretty surprising that Sony's keeping the 80GB BC model. I expected it to be discontinued for good at the rate they were going.
