| Games of the Year: 2007 Edition
2007 is coming to a close. Financially, the year was one of the most successful ever for the industry. The growing Xbox 360 platform in the US as well as the hugely successful Wii console worldwide and the slow-to-start PS3 platform all contributed to an expansion of the games market like never before. The new-generation console war has also sparked controversy like never before, and though the heated debate will continue for years to come, it's impossible to ignore that all three platforms had a slew of fantastic games out this year. Also, the PC had that WoW expansion or something, didn't it? What's everyone's favourite games of this year for each platform? Xbox 360 1. THE ORANGE BOX 2. BIOSHOCK 3. CALL OF DUTY 4: Modern Warfare 4. ETERNAL SONATA 5. BLUE DRAGON PLAYSTATION 3 1. UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune 2. RATCHET & CLANK FUTURE: Tools of Destruction 3. Warhawk 4. UNREAL TOURNAMENT III 5. MOTORSTORM PS2 1. GOD OF WAR II 2. FINAL FANTASY XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 3. PERSONA 3 4. ODIN SPHERE 5. GUILTY GEAR XX: Accent Core PSP 1. JEANNE D'ARC 2. RATCHET & CLANK: Size Matters 3. SILENT HILL ORIGINS 4. SYPHON FILTER: Logan's Shadow 5. FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: The War of the Lions Wii 1. SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2. METROID PRIME 3: Corruption 3. ZACK & WIKI: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure DS 1. POKEMON Diamond/Pearl (lol) 2. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: Phantom Hourglass 3. CONTRA IV PC 1. THE ORANGE BOX 2. UNREAL TOURNAMENT III 3. FINAL FANTASY XI: Wings of the Goddess Here's to a fancy-shmancy 2008!

Only system I've really been buying games for is my Wii. And honestly, I don't own a game for it yet that I wouldn't recommend to someone else. |

Ok let's see...I'll only choose from the games that I've actually played... 360 1. THE ORANGE BOX - haven't played 2. BIOSHOCK - My pick for game of the year for 360 3. CALL OF DUTY 4 - great game with tons of replay value....even if I suck ![]() 4. ETERNAL SONATA - I'd give this game a C. The story took quite a while to pull me in. The graphics were eye popping gorgeous but that doesn't make a game. 5. BLUE DRAGON - I'll give this a C+ or B-. The story is pretty cut and dry...typical jrpg style. Combat with the dragons rocks...but then again I'm a huge dragon fan. PLAYSTATION 3 1. UNCHARTED: Drake's Fortune - this is wrapped and under the damn tree...isn't it Christmas yet!!? 2. RATCHET & CLANK FUTURE - only got to rent this one but I played the HELL out of it! Absolutely GORGEOUS and FUN! Could be game of the year for PS3 but without playing Drake's Fortune AND Unreal, I really can't say. 3. WARHAWK - This is my crazy fun game lol. I love to get on when I'm having a bad/stressful day and it perks me right up. I laugh my butt off.....at myself! 4. UNREAL TOURNAMENT III - Haven't had the chance to play on the PS3. I did get a shot at it on the PC though and it was a great UT upgrade. 5. MOTORSTORM - Good game, I'd give it a B-. Flipping, crashing, and just screwing around with it are some of my favorite things to do. PS2 1. GOD OF WAR II - Um....GO PLAY IT! Of course, I think the first one was better but this is damn good for a sequel and I'm not sorry I spent my pennies on it. This was a really hard choice for me because I think Persona is good enough of a challange for this game but I went more "mainstream" and vote this as the PS2 game of the year. 2. FINAL FANTASY XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 - LOL This must be good since I've been playing it for approx 5+ years. 3. PERSONA 3 - I highly endorse this game. I have all of the Persona series but this one was my favorite. And no, you don't have to play the others in order to enjoy this one. 4. ODIN SPHERE - This one is another great game but one of those games that is for a niche audience. It's a side scroller and just saying that usually turns off people but if you can rent it, do so! 5. GUILTY GEAR XX: Accent Core - haven't had the pleasure of playing this, it's more of my daughter's genre. PSP 1. JEANNE D'ARC - All around great strat game. Funky story if you are familiar with the historical Joan of Arc. lol Definately worth a d/l...erry purchase! 2. RATCHET & CLANK: Size Matters - haven't had the pleasure of playing 3. SILENT HILL ORIGINS - I love the Silent Hill series and having a portable just made my day! A few issues with it but being a fan I can overlook it and enjoy. 4. SYPHON FILTER: Logan's Shadow - Totally enjoyed this game 100%! 5. FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: The War of the Lions - Game of the year for PSP hands down Wii 1. SUPER MARIO GALAXY - Game of the year for Wii without further discussion 2. METROID PRIME 3: Corruption - Great game and worth playing but a little more fps'ish than previous Metroids. But that doesn't hurt it at all and the boss battles made me squeal in delight!! 3. ZACK & WIKI: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure - haven't had the pleasure of playing DS 1. POKEMON Diamond/Silver - I'm sorry to the Pokefans but it's more of the same thing to me. 2. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: Phantom Hourglass - Good and fun game. A bit simplistic at times but out of the 3 games here it's definately the DS game of the year. 3. CONTRA IV - Great game and contra on a handheld is just BLISS! PC 1. THE ORANGE BOX - again...haven't had the pleasure yet 2. UNREAL TOURNAMENT III - enjoyed the hell out of this! Out of these 3, it is by far PC game of the year for me 3. FINAL FANTASY XI: Wings of the Goddess 4. Bioshock - yes I know Pai didn't give this option but I just HAD to!! And this is the true PC game of the year if it had been included in the first place!!

I would certainly consider Bioshock as one of the best PC games out this year in a sense, but I felt that the PC version was far inferior to the 360 version for a number of reasons and could only recommend it now after months of waiting for a patch. And TGM, I demand you go pay the $29.99 (or less now) for Jeanne d'Arc. >:O Support good original titles for PSP, dammit!

Ya, I am basing it on my experience and I didn't have any issues on my PC like some people did. Absolutely stunning game and I'd highly recommend it, especially if you have a 360.

/slap PaiPai. Where's Halo 3 mister? Or is $300M in it's first week not indicative enough? And WoW expansion was the Burning Crusade (Wrath of the Lich king is next year I think? Along with Star Craft 2!!!! ^ _ ^) |

Most of those games sucked. The only thing the Orange Box had going for it was Portal. TF2 was nothing to get excited about, and HL2 isn't aging very well.

My brother also happened to have a copy of Pokémon Silver way back when, still has it now, I belive. I had the Gold one, but I lost it somewhere along the way. Ah, the 2nd Generation of Pokémon, those were the days . . . Anyways, I need to get back reading your post. That was the first thing I saw, and I totally had to nail you for it. Which reminds me . . . /slaps PaiPai again.

Sales do not correlate directly to neither quality nor my personal enjoyment. Halo 3's a great game but there were far better titles released on all platforms this year, IMO.

Okay, considering the only systems on there I own at the moment are Wii, DS, and PC, I'll just summarize my thoughts: I do not yet have any of the Wii games listed. Super Mario Galaxy and Zack and Wiki are defiantely on my "DO WANT NOW" list, however. Maybe I'll be getting them as gifts, or maybe I'll have to get them myself. Either way, I'm definately getting them. I'm also seriously considering Metroid Prime 3. Of the DS games listed, as I already stated, I have Pokémon Pearl Version, but none of the others. I haven't played entirely through Pokémon Pearl yet (because I'm lazy ), but, it's fun. The improvments to the inner workings of the battle system are neat, might I add. I may or may not get Zelda: Phantom Hourglass; I'm sorry, but Cel-Shaded Link doesn't appeal to me. I may get it anyway, though, as I'm still a Zelda fan, and heard plenty good things of Phantom Hourglass. Contra I've ignored completely: apologies to all the hard-cored "Run 'n Gun" fans.I'm not a PC gamer. The only thing on there that's worth it to me is the FFXI expansion, of which I have not encountered yet.

My Mood: | Re: Games of the Year: 2007 Edition Heres my thoughts for the X360 games Xbox 360 1. THE ORANGE BOX - Amazing! Great value, and some really interesting games to boot. 2. BIOSHOCK - In my opinion so over rated. Good game, yeah, but not GOTY 3. CALL OF DUTY 4: Modern Warfare - Great single player, great online. Best COD yet 4. ETERNAL SONATA - Beautiful graphics, immersive play and great music 5. BLUE DRAGON - Personally, i hated this game. Bland and boring! |

360: Mass Effect Assassin's Creed ..that's about it. Bladestorm, maybe. PS3: ...lulz Wii: I love my Wii, but the lack of RPGs besides yet MOAR FE nonsense makes me weep. Gib FF's please. Or something new. Or hell, remake CRYSTALIS. You remade Alien Syndrome, so do CRYSTALIS. Or at least put it on the Virtual Console. I haven't bought a game for it since Zelda. DS: Pokemon D/P Rune Factory PSP: Monster Hunter Freedom 2 FFT: War of Lions

Blue Dragon is worth it, if only for Uematsu's epic true last boss battle theme. I think it's called "The Seal is broken"? Man that was great. Also...yup it's been awhile.
