Let me share with you my horror story about my 360. To say I'm a veteran is an understatement. In January, my Xbox froze. It displayed a number of scary symptoms like loud buzzing and the inability to get past the initial Xbox logo load screen. I have a warranty, so I called and got Microsoft to agree that my machine needed repairs. They sent the box to ship it in (took about 3 days to get here), I packed up the Xbox, and shipped it off. My 'repaired' 360 arrived about a week later. I turn it on, load up FFXI, and play for about an hour. Then I get a visit from the Three Red Lights of Death. Already old hat at the steps you have so delightfully described upthread, I get it to run again after powering off and on without the hard drive. It runs for about 30 minutes, then began to emit a VERY loud noise, as if it was churning up the game disc. I freaked and manually shut it down. Ultimately, it refused to do anything but flash the red lights and I got to call customer service again. Again, I wait for the shipping box delivery, pack it up, ship it, etc. Wait a week, get my 'repaired' 360 back. The one good thing so far is that my husband has had the extreme good luck to be home when these deliveries have been made. When they return your 360 to you, they require a signature. Guess what? This 'repaired' 360 craps out in about a day. By this time I am so pissed at Microsoft and I demand that they give me a brand new 360 and none of this refurbished shit. They agree, but this time it takes about 2 weeks for them to deliver it to me. And then no one is home three times when the package is delivered. I ended up having to go to the distribution center and pick it up myself. BUT this new 360 has worked great ever since. I'm soooo thankful that I had the warranty, even though the whole fiasco ended up taking almost three months. During that time I bought the 07 Vana'diel collection for PC, so I didn't suffer from withdrawls too badly. Last edited by Chveya; 08-24-2007 at 01:55 PM. Reason: break up wall o'text |

I'd love to see Wiimote aiming on a good FPS(Ubisoft is not doing a good job!)...I mean I'd totally smoke your stupid analog controller with it...(the bow aiming in Twilight Princess was awesome....if they could do that with a shooter it would make Halo look like junk) As for the PS3 it's more than capable of matching what a 360 can do(cell is pretty equal with the 360's custom PC stuff)...the trouble is that it's slow going. Maybe when Assassin's Creed or something comes out and you have a game or three to compare it to personnly I'll listen to you on the console side... Also I sorta hate/slightly distrust game reviewers abit lately as I've seen some of them act like total fanboys. There was this one guy on gamespot who spent the whole review of a Wii version of a game I was thinking about getting did not have as good a graphics as his 360 edition(it's a Wii...of course it doesn't!). The thing is that all I wanted to know was "how are the Wii controls...do they stink or rock?" and he would not tell me! I didn't buy the game because he...well left me confused...and I just wanted to know how the controls worked.... BTW: Shooters are almost always better on PC than consoles. There have been lots and lots of attempts to make FPS games work on conoles and very few of them work. The first good exeption was Goldeneye on N64 and halo on the Xbox1(Halo 2 stunk...Half-life 2 was a better FPS and it came out at the same time). | |

....... MS is so cheap its sad... (Note: in the old days I played my systems ALOT, so they got a work out) NES Lasted me 10 years SNES Lasted me 10 years Genesis Lasted me 8 years PlayStation Lasted 4 (still worked when I traded it for my PS2) DreamCast Still working fomr release date PS2 Still going strong N64 From release till trade for GC (still worked when traded) GC From release to when traded for Wii (Again still worked when traded) XBox Only lasted me 2 years..... Wii well yeah still working since release ;p This is roughly my track record with all my console systems, and I will not buy a 360 just for their horrible life span...... The new elite version...... may have fixed some things, but there is still alot wrong with the sytem, and I don't feel like I should have to pay more for crap added to the system, just to get things fixed that should have been fixed to begin with...... | It's in! OMG! | Re: Three Red Lights Of Death!!! And it hurts inside.... No it's not. The Wii is last generation hardware. If anything, some developers have stated that it's on par with the original Xbox, others even referring to it as GameCube 1.5. Considering there has been absolutely nothing on the console that shows any evidence of it being "5-10 times more powerful than Xbox1", released or upcoming, the claim seems to be the usual fanboy nonsense. There's nothing wrong with liking the Nintendo Wii of course. Graphics aren't everything, and anyone buying a Wii is doing so for Nintendo games. But it's important to maintain proper perspective, especially when you're preaching about fanboyism at the same time, all while making generic fanboy comments such as "Microsoft only cares about $$$" which pretty much applies to any business in the universe.

My PS still works My PS2 despite being one of the first ones and supposedly those have problems with some games works flawlessly Heck, my Commodore Amiga is still working I damn well expect an Xbox to work for more than a week, which, from what I am reading, doesn't sound like it happens that often. That is absurd, and displays a lack of caring for their customers by selling a crappy product that I for one don't like. Trying to spin the facts any other way is basically the fanboyism that you seem to despise Jwalton.

Yeah as much as I am disliking Sony right now (more for other reason then just the PS3), their PS3 is a very well built HW wise system (even though its a bit over powered). MS quality is horrible....... I could improve the 360 just by placing its HW in another case and using my own cooling systems, along with tweaks to the drive, to fix the scratching issue, but even after all that, the HW is still of poor quality and would most likely break in a half year tops.....

I had my system for a year and a few months. It died. When I called them up I had no problem, they were very nice and understanding. He also told me it would take a month before I had my fixed 360/new one. Took 4 days to get my box (all weekdays, called monday, recieved box friday). Shipped it out Monday, and it has been 1 day short of a week since I shipped it out. Currently status says device recieved. We'll see if I in fact do get it in time. EDIT: BTW, my box was white. It also came w/ all the shipping labels and good stuff so I didn't have to pay for shipping. Lady at the UPS Store said they get in 3-4 a week (which, I'm sorry, but is horrible).

So, the shipping box never came. I called them up and they said Sorry, we'll send another. I received that one in about 3-4 days. Packed it up and sent it back the same day. Well, it's been a few weeks since, and I'm starting to wonder... Call em again?

Just a side note: A friend of mine got his copy of Halo 3 in the mail, when he opened it up and put it in his xbox he was actually afraid that it would choose that moment to RRoD. That fact that your console is so unreliable that people wonder when, and not if it will break down should signal a huge problem-- especially when that "when" is after only a few months of buying it brand new. |

My siblings' 360 got the RRoD about three weeks ago, but we didn't have any trouble getting it shipped out and back. In fact, when we got it back, the letter in the box said they'd simply replaced it. The problem with that was I then had to spend an hour on the phone with XBL to get the processing started on reassigning the licenses to all our damned Downloaded Content. 30 minutes with one person I could barely understand asking me if I'd tried deleting/redownloading and me telling her repeatedly that we had, that I KNEW what was wrong with it, that all I needed was for the licenses to be reassigned because our 360 had been replaced. It took her 30 minutes to finally get that, and kick me up to her supervisor who came on and said 'Ma'am, the problem is your licenses will have to be reassigned.' ...it took all of my willpower not to curse someone. No. Shit. I've only been saying that the entire past hour. Finally they tell me they'll send the request and give us a call in 5-10 days when it's done.
