I guess my main problem with playing FFXI, is that I'm in a time zone when everyone's asleep. Hell, I seeked for 2 hours on BRD (at level 25 with Mage's Ballad), and just ended up logging off. =\ Don't get me started on end-game shells. It's either during the middle of the day for me, or at 5AM in the morning, that events generally take place. >.<; I don't think I'd ever pre-order LOTRO, but maybe I might try out the open beta when given the chance. I just don't think I could leave FFXI (I have for WoW before, and was too hard, so I came crawling back).

I haven't been on FFXI much lately, other than to pop in, say hello to friends and kill a few HNMs or do dynamis/orb battles or a couple hours of meriting. Too busy the last month to play at all. :/ Wish it were otherwise, but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes. Icemage |

I had some usual drama going on with my life these past months. I hardly play any games at all because of it. Don't feel like playing anything, really.

It's called Player versus Monster Player (PvMP). At level 10, a PC can go to a thingy in a starter town (or most major towns) and take control of a level 50 mob (orc, spider, and/or warg [think wolf]). You can take achievements and and rewards granted to your MP (Monster Player), and apply them to your normal PC. When your normal PC reaches level 40, you can fight against the MPs in raids to reclaim the land back for the good guys (kinda like FFXI's tally I suppose). http://www.lotro.com/article/302 One of the best things is, you don't have to participate. It's in it's own separate area, so you don't have to worry about some uber, player controlled goblin jumping you at level 20. I rather play as a good guy, but reaching level 40 can take a while.

This game is looking far too much like Dungeons & Dragons Online, a game as I was horribly disappointed by. Same developers, so ..

I got an invite to the open beta or whatever this weekend. But I'm not sure I care to take the time to download it.

Can you still apply to the open beta (EU)?

Yeah, I got the open beta thing as well. I've already played in the closed beta so I'm just going to give it a miss. I'd rather wait til later this year when better MMO's will come out. But yeah, it only took me about half a day to download the closed beta (direct download of 3.5GB or so). It was a fast download straight from their servers.

I don't think it's WoW. I keep saying that, but no one listens. LotRO uses a quest base system to level players up instead of grind base. If you prefer to grind, you're welcome to. But, that exp is very slow. Even though this company made DDO, many of the players say it's better than DDO. Seems like Turbine (the makers) learned several lessons from DDO and applied them to LotRO. So, don't shoot them for being the company that brought you DDO. But, I can't compare myself since I never played DDO. Another note: The level cap for open beta is 15. So, you get a taste of what LotRO is like. But, in my opinion, you don't really get a good picture because characters are severely limited at that level (imagine playing FFXI with a level 20 cap). I wish the cap was 20 for lotro (akin to 25-30 in FFXI).

DDO seemed to have the worst net code I have ever experienced in an online game -- all the characters was always "warping" around, totally ruining the game's feel. Not like WoW or FFXI at all. Plus the game world was disappointing, what's wrong with good old Faerun? ;_; Now I just have to wait 'till friday, then I'll see how Middle-Earth is doing.

I'm not saying that's such a bad thing, as you have more indepth story lines and characters, as well as better graphics with a more realistic style. And the jobs are rather different (Dwarf Paladin on LOTRO, ftw!). But yeah...
