* runs around waving a white flag screaming DON'T SHOOT! I don't play World of Warcraft, but I'm considering it, as from all indications it's a great game. Though, I certainly don't want to spawn any arguments about which game is better... My previous MMO experience lies mostly here with FFXI... One thing I really like about this game is the feeling from being in a good party. It's a kind of group synergy, where skillchains, pullers, mp levels, and tanks all are in synch and everybody works as a team. The actual question - Will I be able to find that kind of party play in WoW?

NO one doesnt really party in wow, its a game where its very easy to solo , i would think not many people would waste time waiting for a party. if you want parties, stick to ffxi this is all hearsay

*tosses lighter fluid and lights match for a flame* lol =D WoW is way easier to solo ^^ like REALLY easy, even at higher levels. Priest (white mages) still help a lot to have and resting time is'nt as long, I have only played this over at my freinds house ^^ it was awsome, but FFXI is better because it has more to do, takes longer to accomplish, and people can look at your characters and say "wow 1,000 hours right there 0o" lol

This belongs in the General Gaming forum, it has nothing to do with Final Fantasy XI. *moved*

You party alot in WoW when you get to the higher levels, you can still solo, but to start getting the really good armor you party to go through instances. Mind you, the party requirements aren't as strict as FFXI.

if you want to win instances or win against gold elite (the equivalent of nms but there are a lot of gold elite mobs without a unique name) or if you want to finish an escort quest, you need a party if you want to grind against a normal monster, then you solo. partying in WoW is very much a requirement for certain events, but you do not have to party ALL the time. and most even con quests are doable solo (the game will tell you which quests are even cons) unlike some other games that require you to be so many levels higher to even be able to solo it.

By the way, you can party and get good EXP, in fact, it is better than solo. And unlike FFXI you can solo while you wait for a PT or while you try to build one... instead of sitting in Jeuno for god knows how long... Someone here said "easy". Hmmm, easy might not be the best word to describe solo'ing in WoW. More like: just as hard as FFXI except you can actually do it and accomplish something w/o wasting your time. Solo'ing in FFXI is pointless, don't dispute it. In WoW it's just as hard and challenging but, you can actually do it. It is an option. If you think killing two mobs at one time while watching your back so the enemy can't attack you (since it's a war going on, between players) and you need to watch out for other links because mobs call for help and link so you need to manage that as well is easy then I must spit at you because you're obviously hacking. In WoW, the PT isn't nessacary for lvl'ing nor is it as rigid. You don't need a exact group of people in WoW. You don't say to yourself in WoW: FUCK THERE'S NO PREISTS ON! WE'LL NEVER DO GOOD! Unlike in FFXI. Also, roles can change. WARs in WoW can almost act as a bard with demoralizing and moralizing shouts while tanking. So PTing isn't required for EXP and it dosen't have to be as rigid. But can it give you the same feeling as in FFXI? Yes. But keep in mind, if you want to take a one-day break from FFXI your friends will out level you and you lose your friendly group and your EXP is blown to shit and you won't feel that feeling for a long time. Things are just as hard in WoW as FFXI it just takes less time and less annoyance. But once you get to the top you're not done. Now you have the freedom to do anything. A particular favorite is taking over a starting town (like Sandy taking control of Windy). Also in WoW you don't need to say, "Hmm, I love MNK the best, but no invites so I won't play" you get to be what you want when you want period. And not be gimp. Which is why I quit FFXI at Lv. 52 and agian as a 20 RNG and now I'm never comming back, this game will never get old. It always delievers fun! The only thing I miss in FFXI is the community better and the friend's I made, but I got their emails and we keep in touch so it's all good! | |

thanks Funguwari (and manatra and sadeira)... I guess I'll seriously consider switching now. I haven't been playing ffxi much lately anyways... though I'm only a level 38 black mage. I like ffxi black mages a lot though... everything from their hats to elemental staves to the spells. i just wish wow humes didn't have such large arms... ps. i posted it here because the wow forums aren't open to people who don't own the game and i figured ffxi players would better know what i was talking about. ps2. sorry for posting in the wrong forum. i saw another "wow vs ffxi" post there and never even thought to look for a "general gaming" section.

one thing i love about wow is that party member roles are dynamic and that there are 4 main healers. the 4 healers are priests, druids, paladins (alliance) (yes, they can be main healers and are very good at it), and shamans (horde) my personal favorite parties for instances are... for scarlet monastery 43 druid, 2 36 paladins, 38 hunter, and me 42 warlock at the time. the druid was the main tank (!!!!!) in bear form and the 2 paladins were the main healers. i was tanking scarlet commander mograine (paladin boss) for a while while we all worked on high inquisitor whitemane (priest boss) and the pallies were spamming holy shield on me to keep me from eating it. dude was hitting me for 200+ but luckily i'm a big on buffing my health and warlocks have 3 ways of getting health (primarily by taking it from your enemies).for zul'farrak, 2 rogues (the main tanks), a priest, a mage, and me. things got REALLY hairy during the divine-o-matic magic rod event (60 mobs, fight them almost simultaneously) but we got through. the priest died but i had her on re-res (warlocks can cast re-res on ANYONE but putting it on a healer is most preferable). that event also had an npc party fighting with us, though they were merely meatshields. and they actually kept aggroing mobs so there was an endless stream of mobs fighting us. it was really irritating. in my opinion, partying in WoW is better than partying in ffxi by leaps and bounds. WoW instances gets my heart pounding and it's very exciting. whereas in ffxi, once you learn how to kill an hnm, it's the same pattern boring pattern over and over again. dynamis is also the same boring effective pattern on pretty much every pull. and god forbid you fight 3 or more mobs simultaneously. that's certain death. whereas in WoW, in zul'farrak, the party i was in was fighting upwards of 10 mobs at the same time. edit: oh yeah, good luck getting a copy of WoW. i heard bliz pulled it from almost every store shelf because their servers could not support the number of accounts that would be created if they kept it on the store shelves in U.S. and Canada.

oh hell... :dead: that would make sense... my brother's been talking about a lot of server problems. and i thought that there were too many copies of the game for them to all disappear all of a sudden. guess i'll wait a couple weeks and then go looking again.

I've reached around level 20 in both games. As of now I'm preferring FFXI but maybe that's because I played it on a different computer and could get a higher fps than I'm getting on WOW(Which is around 5 at constant now :dead: ) I ordered a new one but someone screwed up and sent me a card for an AGP slotted motherboard and I had to send it back and am waiting for the new one. Maybe when that comes back I'll put it in and play WOW for awhile and see how things go. If I still feel the same about it I"ll make the switch. I guess I just liked the atmosphere from FFXI better. Although the graphics card probably adds a lot. I'll get back to you in a few weeks.

Partying in WoW? You bet ya, here is a nice of example of a instance group that I joined to head out into the Temple of Atal'kar. Funny thing is, it took us 2 hours tops to get a ton of things accomplished in this dungeon.
