Just out of curiosity how have your experience with this been? I was wondering if the aura steal effects only works if you successfully steal also when you steal a buff, let's take Warm-Up for example - how long does it last?

So far Ive stolen:

Boost off Jailer of Love (Serveral Times)
Protect of various mobs
En-spells off RDM mobs.
Evasion/Accuracy boost of Mamools

Aura Steal has turned out to be more than I first expected. When I first read about Aura Steal I dismissed it as a joke of an ability, because Steal for THFs is gimped as it is. I also highly doubted SE would allow THFs to steal any worthwhile spells/buffs from a target.

I was wrong on both accounts.

With my first merits into Aura Steal I was stealing buffs of IT mobs and occasionally stealing buffs off HNMs/NMs. With 2 merits into Aura Steal Im doing both of these on a more consistant basis.

This past weekend with Jailor of Love the routine I worked was to steal JoLs defense boost before doing a weapon skill to improve my damage. I think I stole the boost affect everytime I tried.

The abilities that I have yet to steal that I am still curious if I will be able too:
Spike Spells (Fire Spikes... Ice Spikes...)
Stoneskin
Berserk-like abilities

Spike spells and berserk can be swiped, not sure about stoneskin, usually wears off before I get the chance to steal it. ><

This weekend during a Besieged the Bomb NM showed up. Im running by and I see the NM use Berserk. So for the hell of it I run over and use Steal. Not only did I dispell the Berserk move... I picked up the Attack bonus. Imagine my surprise when I opened up my equipment view to see this. The only bonuses other than my gear is a Sis Kebobi.



Not showing off or anything... but this was just an amusing 'holy shit' moment.

What kinda damage were you doing afterward? You have any crazy WS damage after the Steal? Did it last as long as our Berserk does?

Didnt get to test it... I was scrambling to get my camera and then to get a good picture. So... yes Id say it lasted for at least 3-4 minutes. I'll try it again next time I see the NM.

OMG that's sooooooooo neat! Imagine that plus a stronger atk food plus BRD songs . . . .ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, i'd LOVE to see the DMG from that

Oh one more question. How does Aura Steal work exactly? I mean how does it determine wether you steal an item? or dispeal an effect? which comes first?

Its wierd actually, but I think there is one thing that determines whether you steal or aura steal. Mob level and location.

Here's what I mean, if there is something to steal like beastcoins, items, etc then Aura Steal seems to not work as often or at all and I wind up stealing the item instead of a Buff. This also depends on the level of the mob.

Examples: I was helping someone this weekend get an Oztroja coffer key and I found that I most stole nothing or a GBC. I think maybe 1-2 times I stole the defense boost Yagudos do. Then in Eldieme I was trying to steal Ice Spikes off Skeletons and wound up stealing Bones Chips everytime.

On new mobs (CoP, ToAU) where items seem to be just forgotten for THFs steal, I get buffs way more.

Well it just seems I'm getting 2 Byan Bills in Dynamis and like dispelling or absorbing their buffs like equal amounts. So it kind of irks me as to wether or not when I'm stealing their buffs I could have stole more Bills.

It only happens when you absorb the status effect and Im pretty sure its a bug they just havent fixed yet.

I totally recommend this ability as a tool in the THF toolbox. The ability to even dispel an ability is neat, but it takes it a step further at times and grants it to you on a steal.
