Never waste Skeleton keys on treasure chests. Use normal tools.

You should always keep a stack of tools on you at least, you never know when you'll stumble over a chest.

Most people wait until 50 and sub thf for sneak/invis.

So, does the job level affects the chance of success in opening a chest/coffer?

I'm interested in using my low level theif to open AF coffer for my main job, with sneak/invisible help from white mage friend. I'm wondering whether this works or not.

Won't work. You must have the correct Job in order to obtain Coffer AF items.

If you open an AF coffer with thf job while on a different job's AF hunt, you'll just get the normal gil/items.

More to the point, at 42 Thief I used 12 lockpicks and three skeleton keys on a treasure coffer in Ifrit's Cauldron and failed each time.

Seems to me like the chests/coffers get harder to open in the mor advanced dungeons, so you need to be a higher level to succeed.

You know I'm right.
