Sneak Attack is the greatest attack ever (at this level), and it's nice to contribute big damage to the party (even if it is just one shot/minute). But here's the catch: to do this you must be behind the mob. So, obviously there has to be someone, the tank, on the other side taking the hate. Usually the tank can provoke. That's the easy step. But then for some reason, the tank feels the need to run around? CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY!?!?
There is nothing worse, as a THF, than to align yourself behind the mob, use your sneak attack macro, have the tank move around, and watch as your attack misses or does regular damage.
Other jobs need to listen up, and learn how to party with a THF!
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or am I just attracted to dumb parties? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-18-2004, 12:01 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Posts: 285 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 430 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 430 Donate | If the tank is running around, then he's not a tank he's na noob and shouldn't do the tank. Because, I'm sad to say, it never really gets better. I think I've had 2 NA PTs with thf since my Set PT broke over a month and a half ago that actually knew how to use a thf. The rest of them required flash cards and an instructional video, and half the time it still didn't work.
Beg, plead, demand.. whatever it takes. Half the time you'll find yourself fighting both the mob, and the PT itself. Most of the time you can throw the idea of being able to do initial fuidama off the tank right out the friggin window.
At least you can still land solo trick attack | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-18-2004, 08:29 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 293 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 4 Times in 1 Post Gil: 10,458 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 10,458 Donate | when i was leveling my THF sub.... the problem isn't so much with the tank running around (most people know that doesn't dodge hits), but was mostly with:
(1) no real "main" tank. multiple tank wanna-be's, who just so happens to provoke and change mob facing when you are set with your SA.
(2) no good "main" tank. War, or PLD that couldn't hold hate worth a damn. Resulting the in mob consantly turning to the damage dealers, or running for the mages. Causing you to miss.
Ex. the PLD in the party when i leveled THF to Lv 30 would:
(a) not provoke until the monster is running towards the mages
(b) rest to full on MP after every fight, and when I'm bring a pull back, he would continue to rest and tell me to tank until he "joins when his MP is full".
(c) eat 2-leaf mandras bud... minus VIT. :dead:
(d) when I hit 30, he say "don't you dare trick attack behind me", when asked why, "because it will take hate away from me"..... | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-18-2004, 10:44 AM | #9 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Manchester, KY Posts: 503 Style: Light - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 1,468 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,468 Donate | Look its this easy, Ones you hit your macro for SA just put your back to the mob if they are moveing then wait for them to stop moveing THEN face the mobs back. It's very rare that you will miss doing your SA like this. It has worked for me MANY times just think bout it.
You think you're the best, but there is always someone better. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-18-2004, 11:38 AM | #10 (permalink) | | Senior Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,130 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 2,339 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,339 Donate | Re: when i was leveling my THF sub.... | Quote: | Originally posted by Xephoid (c) eat 2-leaf mandras bud... minus VIT. :dead: | Is this actually better then a Meat Mithkabob? I was leveling my NIN with a RL friend, a PLD. (He hadn't grouped with THFs) Being the nice guy that I am, I invite a 14THF/MNK (very close TNL, of course) to the party. THF levels, and is naturally trying to SA after PLD provokes. I noticed that, following the initial provoke (after THF pulls mob), the PLD always seems to move a little to the left or right, causing the THF to miss the SA.
I then happen to remember that my friend, the PLD, plays in 3rd-person view.
What happens if you aren't directly facing the mob in 3rd-person view, and you attempt to face them? You move.
I noticed this, and sent him a /tell instructing him to Stop Using F*cking 3rd-person View. Problem solved.
Just another warning sign for you THFs to watch for. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-19-2004, 03:25 AM | #13 (permalink) | | Senior Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,130 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 2,339 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 2,339 Donate | Err, I use third person view and haven't encountered any problems.
