How useful are Thfs at high levels?
Bare with me I'm a little new at this and I apologize if this has been asked to death. But I was concerned as to my usefulness lets say from 50 and up.

Will I still get into parties easily?

What can I contribute to the group?

I ask this because I've heard that Thfs aren't really around as much at high levels or at least not as main jobs.

Thanx in advance for anything any of you can tell me.

I'm 46 thief at the moment and cant get group's anymore unless its with people i know ,or japanese group's that dont have paladin tank's :| .
if you do get in english group's its impossible to get them to work with you so you can play thief as it is intended hate control.

I'm thinking about giving up thief and going back to one of my other level 30+ job's.
spending hours seeking with no invite's isnt any fun.

I bet all the really high level thief's without WHM friend's leveled before paladins were in the game ,i think the role of paladin made thief's worthless.

it wasnt' the role of pld. it was square-enix's stupid move to nerf the living crap out of thf by taking away yokodama.

thf with yokodama = good pt member, even in high lvls.

thf without yokodama = alot of work for the rest of the party.

"WAY TO GO SQUARE-ENIX! you guys ROCK!" </sarcasm>

really that's too bad

I was kinda hoping to become a high level Thf and always be rich.

But why???

Why aren't Thfs useful, and what do Paladins have to do with it?

If you put the effort in you can always be rich. And thieves are great, assuming you have the right classes to skillchain with. Two reasons I don't get in lots of parties is there's a lot of thieves on my server around my level, and thief isn't one of those necessary classes so lots of parties don't even have them.

This is speaking from my own experience.

I don't group with NA players much because they don't even know how to set up fuidama. I've joined a grand total of 2 groups since I hit 42 with NA players (from 45 - 50) and neither of them know how to set up fuidama (even with 2 provokers).

I've got my level to 48 with only once grouping with paladin. Most of the time I group with Ninja and RDM tanks. Yes, RDM tanks with phalanx/stoneskin/blink.

It seem to me that thief is desired when you're using alternative means to tank than the traditional PLD tank. That would explain why NA group doesn't desire a thief because they either doesn't have the means (blink tank is expensive, phalanx is even more expensive) or the ability to coordinate fuidama.

Thief, I would say, needs more teamwork. Maybe when the NA player base matures, you can get an easier group since they will have the means and brains to coordinate fuidama efficiently. Before that, it is pretty hard to get a group. Maybe even worse than a warrior.

Oh... I guess since you put it that way it would be kinda hard to get at high level Thf, considering the things you said. Well I guess I'lll just have to sub Thf like everyone else.

 BUT I THINK IT'S REALLY STUPID THAT CERTAIN JOBS BECOME USELESS AT CERTAIN LEVELS!!!

I think all jobs should have a special thing or place that no other job can fill NO MATTER WHAT! then there'd be more people choosing the less choosen jobs... like Sum, Brd and Bst.

I used to think this was all a bunch of whining.... until I got into my early 40s and have gotten 2 groups in the past 2 weeks. I may stick it out to 45 to get TH2, but after that I think its time to switch jobs.

I don't think the problem is purely being a thief. Its a combination of things. Just the other night I saw 4 warriors, 3 DRKs, 2 PLD and me and maybe 1 other thief seeking a pt around my level. So there were more melee than mages available. But I certainly felt like I was gonna be the last one picked.

I think its time to get off my duff and start forming my own parties. I don't expect to be too sucessful doing this, because you can't create mages just because you are a party of 4 melees. But its worth a shot.

actually subbing thf is kinda pointless unless you're farming or a drk.

mnk/thf and sam/thf *kinda* work but /war is usually better/more respected/more recommended. raging fists brings alot of hate back anyway.

in the 40's people loved thieves... if i left people looked for another thief to replace. one day i actually bailed on a pt to be their replacement thf and they freaked but it was with someone whose play skill i had to question.

in crawlers and garliage distortion damage off a double thrust or enpi/viper just amounted to absurd numbers. and roaming mobs don't go anywhere when paladins realize they need you.

but then you are of course at the mercy of how many thieves your level there are. and you get those days always when there's nothing but melee lfg and then the next you'll see 4 blm/3whm lfg and no tanks on all vana'diel. everyone gets it rough at higher levels.
