I'm pretty sure Bards make crappy subs because only Bards can use instruments. Also it takes longer to sing as a non-bard. Can also only cast one song. I THINK, but haven't actually played yet so... yeah.

I think bard/thief is good combination for steal more safely, since lv 5 for steal, but more useful songs for bard is lv 10 or higher, like lv 16 put enemy to sleep. More caution here, since ffxi is to get more EXP so not many people for this races on party. Am I right?

I'm making a pretty big assumption here, but I would think Bard is someone everyone wants in their PT, but dosen't actually want to be a Bard.

THF/BRD is a very bad combination. The top priorty of a THF is to gain as much TP as soon as possible so they can use their Fuidama + WS combo to deal major damage in one hit. If you're singing in the background and not attacking then you're not gaining TP and it defeats the whole purpose of being a one-hit wonder. It's not recommended to sing after battles are over either since thieves are considered pullers, so the first thing they should do after the monster is dead is run and find the next monster to pull so you can chain. If you're singing then you aren't going anywhere and it's doing nothing but hindering the PT's EXP. Besides, subbing Bard only allows you to sing one song as opposed to two.

BRD/THF really doesn't work either. All it'll do is give you a huge DEX boost but Bards don't need accuracy to be a better supporter. In order to become a better supporter, most people use BRD/WHM or BRD/RDM because healing is always welcome.

Hey this is thief discussion, and Bard only useful for high level.
and bard don't need mp to sing. The best support will be Whm/blm for party, or blm/whm to deal damage. Also if you are solo thief/whm is better choice.
