A few questions
i've been wondering these for a while

1.what determins(sp?) a summons power?

2.How fast does your mana decrease while you have your summon out?

3. Are there any support summons?

4.How many summons are allowed to be used currently?(how many that are useable and obtainable)

5.whats your favorite summon? :p

1. I'm not 100% sure. Charisma seems to go up alot according to this (amazing) stat calculator

http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~nhart/Status_calculator.htm

but I'm not sure what else is really significant. I know this is the class with the most MP, so I think INT might go up alot more than other classes, too, but I'm not sure if it effects the summon's power directly.

2. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure I heard that it's different for each summon. For example, maybe: 1MP/sec. for Carbunkle, 3MP/sec for, oh, I dunno, Ifrit maybe.

3. I would guess that Carbuncle is mainly support, but I think they all have the ability to attack (I've seen Carbunkle kicking some serious butt). Also, I understand they gain different abilities as the summoner levels up.

4. Um... we know about... lemme see... Carbuncle, Shiva, Garuda, Ifrit, Ramuh, Titan, Leviathan... am I missing one?

5. Alexander is my favorite summon (although he's not in this game... yet, it seems), thanks for asking. In FFXI... I'd say... Leviathan.

I want to add a question if that is acceptable

If one of your dear summons have died can you just summon a new one or are you kinda screwed if you lose your summon?

I'm pretty sure you can just summon a new one...

Anyway, I have a question too . If you've already used a summon's support abilities and you want the summon to attack, do most summons serve as physical attackers(like another warrior), or a magical attacker(like having another black mage in the party)? Also, do they do pretty nice damage? Thanks for the info, probably dumb questions  ...

If you hunt around you can find some videos showing summons in action. They function a lot like standard pets in other mmorpgs and they do have a basic melee attack.

You're gonna need me to get those summons. I'm gonna be the summoners' best friend.

Anyway, there's some summon videos at Sharky's website. You need to sign up though... it's worth it for a bit of summon video goodness.

You have to fight the summon before you get it, hence you need a strong fighter like me to kick the monster's arse. Dark Knights are exceptional fighters against magical beings. You'll want a DRK like me and a BLK casting magic that's effective against the summon's element.

Don't worry, I won't charge you, the experience it yields is good enough for me. I'll do it for any summoner that wants to complete it's journey.

You can't beat a summon alone. It's impossible... especially when most aspiring summoners are White Mages. How on earth can a White Mage go up against Ifrit?

I meant that for me... a class that's really good against magical enemies.. would benefit from invites from aspiring summoners. So... to benefit both me and the summoners I will travel with them all over looking for the next summon to get. Summoners, Dark Knights, and Black Mages to me will be friends a lot because of the benefits they get from each other.

This is a game of cooperation...

Yes if you have a brother or friend that'll pay for the extra monthly fee of $10... yes you can play with him. The game is cross-platform and cross-continental... so yes you can "mix."

As far as parties go, 6 people can group to fight a summon. DRKs like me are a must. How can you turn down a tall sexy looking elf in black armor?

On the level cap... there's a cap of 65 right now... but no one knows up to where it'll go.

As far as fast leveling for a summoner, I don't have the game so I can't really give you any details.

One thing you SHOULD know is don't play the game as a leveling race... play it at a pace where you can appreciate it.

For example, you could play a job and totally ignore quests and adventure and get to lvl 30 in a week... or you could get really immersed in the game. What point does getting to lvl 30 serve if you're not advancing anywhere else? Being strong is a virtue, but you can't forget there is a story and a point to everything you do... I kinda think it's best to "Feel the Fantasy" instead of just racing for levels. You won't get anything out of it either...

Now that is out of the way, by the time you can even BE a summoner you'll no longer be a newbie. You'll be a lvl 30 blackmage or whitemage... so you'll know what to do when the time comes.
