SMN Pull & AoE questions
Please forgive me if i have missed this topic if it had already been brought up.

I have not played SMN in a long time, nor have i played WITH a SMN in an xp pt in a long time and i am rusty on how Carby Pull & Bloodpact AoEs effect links.

1. Carby Pull: Does Carby have to die in order to have a clean pull or can i [release] him and still have a clean pull?

2. AoE bloodpacts: When fighting a mob with lots of neighboring mobs (for example: @Crawlers Nest, fighting Crawlers with Lizards around, or @Boyahda Tree, fighting Crabs with Bunnies around), can i use an AoE bloodpact and be safe from adds? Will the adds only have hate on my avatar or when my avatar dies, will the links come after me?

Please forgive me for not going out and testing this myself. I don't want to put my PT in danger of a simple uneducated experiment. .

Thanks for the help.

Re: SMN Pull & AoE questions
As far as pulling goes you should be able to have carby attack and then retreat him and run back to the group nothing should link on the way back, unless a mob agros you. With the AoE Bp's i would imagine that it would cause adds and that you would have the hate after carby dies, but i'm not sure.

Re: SMN Pull & AoE questions
I tested this so I know it works:

1 (Carbuncle Pull - also works with any avatar/spirit): mobs will link like normal, but when you release, it will be the same as Carbuncle dieing. All other mobs will unlink, and only the one will come after you. However, things can still link if the mob passes by something linkable on its way to you (i.e. another crawler pops). Also if it is a casting or ranged mob, be careful as the timer for which the hate resets (getting rid of links) is short, and if the target mob is still standing there when they can link again, they will.

Summary: Release is the exact same as avatar death. Make sure there is nothing on the way back that can link and that the mob doesn't stand around long enough for the other ones to re-link (i.e. BLM type mob starts casting Flare), and you'll get a clean pull.

------------

2. AoE BPs (and other pet's aoe abilities) will only cause hate on the pet from surrounding mobs. Once you release the pet (or the pet dies), hate will be gone so long as nobody else attacked the other mobs.

Re: SMN Pull & AoE questions
Sorry for bumping a thread so old, but I didn't see the point in making a new post to ask a question regarding this thread.

Would the above strategy work for NPC groups?

I.e. : in Phomiuna Aqueducts - is it possible to split a Fomor party by using /assault, running far out of range, and then dismissing the avatar?

Normally this would cause any adds to unlink/deaggro, and only the attacked monster to come looking for you - but Fomor parties are different, of course.

Just wanted to run this by the SMN community to see if anyone's tried it, before I risk it and end up wiping out my PT :p

Re: SMN Pull & AoE questions
Sorry, I've never tried this before. But since they are considered parties, my bet is they'll still go after you.

If anyone has tried this, feel free to correct me, as I'm not 100% sure how those parties work, most of my trips have been generally avoiding them.
