Can I get the ice effect for the quest to unlock smn from qufim or will I have to goto beceaudine? I would really like to get the ice effect for the ruby without having to death warp. Also, how long do I have to be in the zone for the weather effect to take hold(can I quick enter the zone and then quick zone out or do I have to at least spend some time in the zone?) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 06:44 AM | #3 (permalink) | | Brain of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Location: Colorado Posts: 1,576 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 173 Thanked 107x in 67 Posts Gil: 11,774 Bank: 51,089 Total Gil: 62,862 Donate | Re: where to get the ice effect?? You need to enter the zone when it is snowing or there is a blizzard. No reason you you to stay in the zone except to wait for it to start snowing if it wasn't when you zoned in. If it starts snowing you must zone back to the pass then back in to get your element.
Their is also about a 0.0000001% chance of snow in Batillia Downs outside of Jeuno, but you have a better chance at getting a Kraken Club. As for the blood warping issue, I assume you have been leveling with signet? Beaucedine Glacier, Xarcabard, and Uleguerand Range are the only outdoor zones in the game that have regular occurrences of blizzard weather. Batallia Downs has snow, as Onionsoilder mentioned, but it is horribly rare - I think I may have seen snow there twice in over three years of play. Unless you're feeling like you can win a lottery, your only choice is to go to Beaucedine Glacier (since both Xarcabard and Uleguerand connect to Beaucedine via the path on foot).

You could just bite the bullet and run thru the Ranguemont Pass (fabled location of the old refresh scroll phenomena w) that's located in the north part of East Ronfaure. It takes you directly through to Beaucedine Glacier.
On a sad, side note, I recently did SMN quest and went to BG to get ice weather. Later on, while chasing down thunder weather that same evening, I happened past Batallia Downs, for which much to my dismay, there was ice weather going on in Batallia.
Believe me, I wanted to stick a fork in myself because I was so done w/SMN that night and went and played Super Mario Kart........ | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 09:46 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Loaded With Sodium Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,964 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 448 Thanked 1,591x in 1,001 Posts Gil: 3,587 Bank: 33,189 Total Gil: 36,776 Donate | Re: where to get the ice effect?? Running through the pass to get to Beacedine isn't really too rough. If you're not a mage, (which I would assume you'd have WHM leveled up if you're going to be leveling SMN, but you never know), then just bring some oil and powder and you're set.
Shouldn't take but a few minutes. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 12:58 PM | #9 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: ny Posts: 279 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 122 Thanked 4x in 4 Posts Gil: 14,416 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 14,416 Donate | Re: where to get the ice effect?? I'm actually RDM(that's how I did the supply quest)--The problem is not getting there but getting out of there without getting lost. I can keep sneak/invis up but without an in-game map it's going to be fun keeping track of my position. Last question can I get back through the pass or do I have to find another way out of the Glacer(the last time I was there I got locked into the pass and was told I couldn't go back the same way)? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-14-2007, 01:15 PM | #10 (permalink) | | ONE WAY Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Confirmed Posts: 2,908 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 86 Thanked 227x in 170 Posts Gil: 29,120 Bank: 13,203 Total Gil: 42,323 Donate | Re: where to get the ice effect?? I have a printed out 1 but I still have to manually track where I am--It can be done but it will be fun having to watch sneak/invis(as well as my magic points) and track on a printed out map(looks like i'll be having fun). At least I don't think I'll have to escort anyone so I'll only have to pay attention to me aggroing. You can indeed get back to East Ronfaure from the Beaucedine Glacier side of Ranguemont Pass.

Note the EXIT ONLY door at E-10. That's how you get back.

Indeed. You just can't go back exactly the way you came in. Your best bet would be to print off a copy of the map, and then just check your POS periodically. But honestly, if you look, it's basically a left at the first intersection (after the door), and then you follow the right hand wall until you're out. So even if you don't have the map, you can remember that. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-15-2007, 03:26 PM | #14 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: ny Posts: 279 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 122 Thanked 4x in 4 Posts Gil: 14,416 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 14,416 Donate | Re: where to get the ice effect?? The best thing to do is stay right at the zoneline - the moment you see the weather change, zone into Ranguemont Pass, then immediately zone back to Beaucedine Glacier and you'll collect your cutscene.
