So I know most of you folks are super uber high level and aren't particularly interested in chatting about low level goings-on, but I had hoped that maybe we might be able to get some conversation going here in the Bahamut server as a whole, and possibly in the shiny new Social Lounge. We already have a thread for who we are in game, so I thought this would be a good place opportunity to introduce the player behind my character. Feel free to follow suit, or just tell me to shut up, or whatever acroynym you think is best.^^
My name is David, and as I mentioned in the "Who's Who" thread, I've been playing FFXI on and off for the past couple of years. I am not a huge PC gamer - in fact FFXI was my very first MMO, and the first PC game I'd played since the old school King's Quest series back in the late 80's/early 90's. I do a bit of console gaming (I have an Xbox, Gamecube and PS2, but all are pretty much gathering dust), but for the most part I'm pretty busy and I don't have too much time to play multiple games.
I'm 28 years old and I live in Ohio, which is pretty uneventful. There's nothing particularly wrong with the area, but I feel like I've lived here long enough, and I'm ready for a change of scenery. I've worked in a variety of fields, but I still haven't gotten around to finishing my college education (I'd kill to be able to afford being a full-time student), but I'm slowly chipping away at it. I do a lot of reading, and I try my hand at writing from time to time, but it's not something that I can really see myself doing professionally. I could, perhaps, see myself working for a publishing firm, or possibly as a copy editor or something, but I've still got a lot of time to think about that.
Anyway, I'm sure I've already bored you to tears, and I haven't even gotten started. I'll wait and see if anyone cares/is willing to participate/hasn't reported me/is looking to make new friends on Bahamut before I write any more.
So if you're out there, and you're interested in chatting, or getting to know more of the people on the server (if we can just get them posting here) feel free to /wave or just post a little something about yourself here. No need to give out more info than you feel comfortable with. I'm not trying to pressure anyone. Anyway, I look forward to reading your responses, and hopefully one day meeting up with some of you in game.^^ | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-11-2006, 07:53 PM | #2 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: North Dakota Posts: 122 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 1,934 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,934 Donate | Re: What's up Bahamut? To start off, as many people I'm sure will ask, yes and no, that my character is named after a popular Anime Character from a series called Naruto.
The story goes I was making Itatchi (with an extra T) when i first got FFXI and I planned Samurai as my main from the start. Asked roommate a good Samurai name. Now I was not yet familur with the series but he was. He suggested Itachi, but when he pronounced it, it sounded like Itatchi, and thus the character was born.
Later on when I started watching Naruto, I knew I was gunna catch grief for this.
I'm on Bahamut, and a Samurai, my lvl should display both on my signature and my profile. Also I got a nice little link on my signature for when I got Tachi: Gekko, make sure your speakers aren't too high if you check it out.
I've been playing since.. I uh.. actually can't remember when i started. I played off and on when i first got the game, namely because some of my friends got it and I thought it'd be a cool way to hang out with them...
Well I slightly out leveled them around.. hmm, lvl 28 or 29 warrior or so and than I kinda fell away from the game. Skip ahead some time, I caught my ex cheating on me, so I booted her out and found myself in possession of an incredible well of freetime.
And so I booted up FFXI once again. I quickly got 30, met a really nice guy named Duratta, whom was in a Linkshell Called Guts. I remember it so well because I had recently purchased the anime 'Berserk!'
Who'd of thunk I'd actually end up in that LS anyway. Hmm. Duratta helped squeeze the newb out of me, he even helped me unlock samurai, and even gave me 100k (which was alot back than.. plus I wasn't suppose to tell anyone about the 100k thing, so hush hush )
And thats about, been playing off and on. My first major LS was BleedingHearts .. which I sadly was kicked from. I spoke of boobies once too much and I was gone.. at least according to some people. Its too bad, I had many LS's before BleedingHearts, but they felt like my first true one.
Anyway I had a mule with a BleedingHearts pearl still on him, and I'd logon from time to time to say hello.. eventually the .. whomever booted me decided maybe they were a bit too harsh, and said I could come on freely on my mule. Later on BleedingHearts merged with Cake LS. ( www.cake-ls.com)
So Now I'm in Cake as my general Chat/assist LS. My HNM is Guts ( http://guts.guildportal.com)
Anyway, i 'spose thats enough junk from me. I also post.. like a joural once and a blue moon at my deviant art site ( http://feix.deviantart.com). Beware its got a little /emo and some crappy pictures.
Catch ya in the game!

I keep an LJ and (begrudgingly) a Myspace profile to stay in contact with friends, but I've found myself pulling away from both more and more lately.
I really like writing, but I'm not sure that the blog format is the right one for me.
Sounds like you know some great folks in game, Itachi - I'm glad you've found a place (in game) that works so well for you! I'm still trying to find an LS and group of friends that feels as comfortable as what I had a few years ago on Seraph, but I figure I'll find it eventually. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-11-2006, 08:20 PM | #5 (permalink) | | Loaded With Sodium Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Jul 2005 Posts: 7,964 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 448 Thanked 1,586x in 1,000 Posts Gil: 2,224 Bank: 28,893 Total Gil: 31,117 Donate | Re: What's up Bahamut? You cake folks are like drug pushers!
Just teasing, really. I have an LS at the moment, and it's pretty ok. Friendly folks, mostly on during JP time, which even though I live in EST, is about the only time I can play. I'm not in a huge hurry to join a social LS just yet, and I know that I can be kind of particular about what kind of folks I hang out with. That's not to imply that you or any member of Cake wouldn't be the kind of people I hang out with in game (in fact, all of you seem really nice from everything I've seen), but I'm just taking things slow. As it is, I've only got about an hour or two each week to play lately, so I'm trying not to commit to anything right now while I'm barely available.
Boy, that was quite the ramble. Still, thanks! | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-12-2006, 02:43 PM | #6 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: North Dakota Posts: 122 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 1,934 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,934 Donate | Re: What's up Bahamut? You don't quite have to commit to cake. Its just a general ... assist/help each other out/advice giving/hangout LS. It doesn't require you to be on a mandatory 10hrs a day.. only 6... lol, joke.
I think you get what I mean. /wink | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-13-2006, 07:42 PM | #7 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: In corn. Posts: 14 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 336 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 336 Donate | Re: What's up Bahamut? Moo?
I'm Farasi. >_> <_<
I'm normally eloquent with words, but tonight I'm pooped from dealing with Mom aggro.
I was turned onto FFXI from a friend on my own game (elsewhere on teh intarweb) and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was I wanted to do. So I picked the most general non-fur-bearing-or-too-short-to-see-over-a-railing-no-angrogyny-for-me-kthx characters and flipped a coin. Hume female from Bastok it was. Coming up with a name was a tad more difficult. But it was pointed out to me that very same day a phrase that I often use, sometimes to the annoyance of those reading, 'Far as I know'. I dropped the 'know' part and smooshed the letters together. Farasi was born. *gong*
In actuality I'm an old nun living in the middle of a big patch of corn known as the black hole at the center of the United States. Okay, I jest. But it's close to the truth. I'm older than about 80% of the playerbase on Bahamut. Tho it does make this old nun semi-smile at being younger than roughly 18%. In other words, I don't give out RL information over teh intarweb lightly because I'm a paranoid old bat.
If you ask a few of my friends any detailed information you're likely to hear 20 different tales from 20 different people. I'm the ghost in the machine. And I see you haven't dusted in here for quite some time. For shame. 75 RNG-BRD-BLM (working on the rest) | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-14-2006, 01:12 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: North Dakota Posts: 122 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post Gil: 1,934 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,934 Donate | Re: What's up Bahamut? The curled lip, the eye patch...anyone whose anyone knows not to mess with a Nurate! (nun-pirate)
