I need one with strong reds like possibly from Halvung or Ifrit's Cauldron or a sunset, another with really strong blues, Pso'xja, Uleguerand caves or Aydeewa might work well for that, and a third larger image for a background. Not sure what I'd like out of that one, but something bleak like Uleguerand or Beaucedine would work. The cleaner the better (hide interface, turn off /names), but I can work with whatever I get. Thanks in advance to anyone who'll help me out with this. I need some clean shots of the protocrystals, preferably one of each, and some 1280x960 or better of Promyvion. It's a tall order, I know, but if some kind soul with a video card a couple generations better than my old GeForce 3 could help me acquire this material I think the final product will be pretty awesome. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-01-2006, 08:50 PM | #3 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Posts: 209 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 378 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 378 Donate | Re: Looking for some landscapes I had an awesome sunset screen shot but I think it was probably lost when I uninstalled FFXI ><; I will check for it though. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-05-2006, 06:19 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Chapeauteur Administrator Join Date: Dec 2003 Posts: 4,798 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 215 Thanked 630x in 321 Posts Gil: 7,485 Bank: 36,771 Total Gil: 44,256 Donate | Re: Looking for some landscapes No love huh? Maybe if I showed you guys what I want to do.
Here's a mockup of what I want to do. The finals would be better, of course, since I just threw this together to show my intent. A darker background like Promy would probably work better for example and I'd make a more interesting pose. But ... mothercrystal body, wings reflecting two regions of Vana'diel, I suppose not necessarily those colors, and a short poetic line characterizing the portrayed character as a virtue of the mother goddess, wallpaper sized.
I was going to do one for each race and gender. I suppose what I should do is say "If you want one, get me the four screenshots you want used and tell me your screen res." | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-14-2006, 10:57 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Memphis, TN Posts: 180 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post Gil: 790 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 790 Donate | Re: Looking for some landscapes That's a really fascinating project idea. I've been doing lots of travelling in my free time getting background shots for some banners I'm doing for my LS forums, and I'll definitely keep you in mind next time I go. My system is no powerhouse, but it produces some nice shots with registry hacks and whatnot. I generally take shots at 1280x1024 overlay and 2048x2048 background. Gia - Sandy Rank 10

There's actually some really nice backdrops in the game. Maybe if I can find some time to log in tonight I'll dial up my resolution and go globetrotting.
Spots that might be worthwhile:
Dragon's Aery - side pool. Just have to get the Demonic Roses out of the camera view. Very strong greens and blues in that spot.
Airship - sunset. Very strong reds and oranges on the sunset ride, but the backgrounds are a bit dull.
Purgonorgo Isle - sunset. Might be a better bet for scenery at sunset for reds.
Misaraeux Coast - waterfall. Probably one of the prettiest locations in all of FFXI, strong blues and grays, depending on time of day and weather.

Given his example, the things that jump out at me are the sky in sea for the red wing (more pinkish than red maybe but such a fascinating texture) and the sea/skyline of Purgonorgo, one of the most gorgeous blues ever.
One of my favorite hi-res shots I've taken for my banners is Empyreal Paradox (outside, although inside the BC is amazing in its own right). I'll have to post it up later, but it's got so much detail and delicacy with the severe crystal right in the middle and the doohickey that hangs down...just amazing.
Then there's the classic cliff shot in Lufaise, which I got a wonderful shot of at twilight with the sky fading from pink to purple.
(I think I saved the original but it's not hosted, this is heavily chopped and 'shopped but you get the idea of the colors!)
One shot that I don't have that I'm working on getting is the Ulegurand Range shot from the Snoll BC exit area. I took a shot when we beat it but I had low settings and people in the shot and all that. Yuck!
Sky during an aurora would be nice, and I'm determined to remember my screenshot button the next time I enter an avatar BC. Gia - Sandy Rank 10
