My Mood: | SAM/DNC Solo lvl 40+: Where to camp?
Been looking around, not finding much info on viable camp sites for a ~40 SAM/DNC (plus NPC). I have a few ideas, and Campsitarus is good for a very general idea (however, that site is for party play, not really solo friendly), but I'd like input from others to narrow my search to the most viable/optimal locations/targets. Admittedly, it won't rival party EXP, but just something that's worth the time spent waiting for that invite to appear. As you all know, my play times don't exactly afford me the luxury of always being able to make my own parties, so alternate solutions must suffice for now. This, hopefully, will be one of them. |

I'd have to say, pick a preferred mob family, a desired level range, and see if it looks like it will work. For example, I've been farming the bees in past Rolanberry on THF53 to level my Adventuring Fellow. It's perfect XP for the Fellow, and a trickle for me plus drops. It might be worth taking a look at the solo DNC guide on Wikipedia, it should give you some possibilities and you can tailor things to fit.

I know when I leveled BLU I soloed on Colibri in East Ronfaure S during the Mid 40's, although the Feather Tickle might prove annoying to you since you're subbing DNC. But nonetheless it was nonstop pulls for me since I could MP Drainkiss each fight, and that + Sigil Refresh made getting to Chain 3-4 very easy. Pretty much a good idea to start once they check T(or maybe even VT, since you'll be using an NPC. I did it solo or duoing with a PUP). So around 42-43 you can probably start here, my memory is fuzzy on when they started checking T/VT-

Sweet, thanks yall. I was wondering where in the past was a good solo spot; I'll check it out later when I get the chance. |

Have you tried the bestiary at Vana'diel Atlas - Final Fantasy XI Maps collection - Treasure, NM, Quests, and Missions locations? You can enter your desired level, desired minimum XP with or without NPC, etc.

I had been using that site to eyeball a few targets, but never realized it had a page that would calculate the mobs I needed to go after for me. Thanks a lot! |

I would add that you could also use Fields of Valor - since SAM/DNC is such a strong soloer you can probably even do mobs that are around your own level, rather than waiting until they're EP-DC like most jobs have to. FFXIclopedia's Fields of Valor page has a very useful list of what areas you can do FoV in, what monsters you'll have to fight and what the rewards are (with lots of links to more detailed information on each area and monster, including exact monster levels). There's an awkward gap between when Qufim stops giving decent exp and when you can handle Beaucedine, but at 40 in a strong soloing setup, you're already past it and shouldn't have too much trouble with tundra tigers (aside from paralysis, since you won't get Healing Waltz until 70/35).

Yeah, as I was in a party in Xarcabard for about a level, I ended up realizing that the Demons and such out there were no more than T at 46, so after I dinged and the party disbanded, I started doing the FoV page for Demons, Gigas, and Evil Eyes. After three rounds of that, I have capped GKT skill and am about to ding into 48. SAM/DNC w/ NPC is pretty good solo xp. Last edited by LilithAngel; 12-27-2008 at 05:42 AM.
