I was under the impression that you only had to have the gear equiped at the time you ate the riceball. So you equip your Enhances Rice Balls equipment, scarf down the food, and you gain the effect. So you put on whatever else you want like O. Kote.

Can somebody confirm this?

No, the effect on the Roshi Jinpachi and Myochin Kote (as well as a few other items such as Opo-Opo Crown) are latent on the armor itself. You have to have the specific Food effect active, and gain the latent on the armor only when it is worn while under the influence of that specific food.

Re: Starting SAM
Guess I'll just ask this to follow up then - just how hard is it to get Mee Deggi the Punisher? I'm considering putting off O Kote til latersince its so close to where I'd be stopping at sub level for a little while.

I looked over FFXIah and it doesn't seem like its cornered off by Titan's usual RMT like it used to be, so maybe I should just go ahead and camp it while I can.

Ever since the Special Task Force dealings, the hacking gilsellers who have once monopolized the okotes have been banned and it's a lot easier to camp now. Best advice to you, however, is to camp it with a friend. The pop area is relatively large, and it'd be really tough to scope and run around the entire area yourself.

As far as the drop rate goes, it's not that great. I know people who have gone 0/8 on it. Could get lucky though, never know.
