Will I be making a mistake?

So I saw the VD pack 2008 dropped for $30 for the 360. I'm definitely not looking at being able to commit 4-6 hours a day and I don't expect to ever hit 75 and that's okay because in reading about it, I don't really like what I see. Also, I'm looking to play until maybe January/February. Then I'll decide if I want to meet old friends for the WoW expansion or pass on the poison.

My plan is to level WHM to 30, switch to BST and be able to flex around with my schedule. Would 30 even be achievable on a casual schedule in a reasonably short time period? I remember spending tons of hours leveling my THF after release and quitting at 29. x_X

Also, is WHM still the staple BST soloing subjob?

Without knowing how much time you can commit, and how it will be broken up, it's hard to gauge.

Getting WHM to 30 is going to mean partying; partying means playing for a few hours in one sitting. An hour here, an hour there doesn't cut it. Personally, I don't try to party unless I have at least two or three hours. You can solo for shorter spans of time, but on WHM, that's a very slow process.

If you can play for a good block of time once or twice a week, it shouldn't be any problem getting WHM to 30 by January, especially if you can take smaller chunks and use them for farming/crafting/questing/etc. If all you have are smaller blocks, it's going to be iffy.

And yes, BST/WHM is still canonical.

hrm...that's a good point about partying to 30. I'd usually end up being able to put in 1-2 hours at a time.

Maybe I should leave MMOs alone for a bit. Hardly any of them seem to be suitable these days.

We didn't seem (we being me or the hubs) to have any probs soloing WHM to 30 (and RDM as well), yes its MUCH faster xp in parties, but if you are careful and not too afraid of death, you can solo to 30 in a few months.

But, the BST job quest is kinda luck of the draw - the Goblin Bounty Hunters that run along the path are pretty much instant death if you mess it up - best of luck!

Don't bother, stick to WoW.
This game really has no way of offering you anything rewarding or enjoyable unless you commit inhuman amounts of time to it.

Depends on how you define "inhuman."

I play like 5 hours a week and I still find fun in this game.

I say give it a shot. Monday's update is going to make soloing easier, and it's not too hard for a WHM to get parties.

Playing about 3-5hrs/week for the past 4 weeks I've had lots of fun soloing BLU from 1-26 and gathering spells. It's really not that hard to play FFXI with only a few hours of time, and the people who say so (above) obviously haven't actually tried any other aspect of the game other than grinding to 75 and endgame.
