Thinking of returning with friends in tow!

Well I'm currently playing LOTRO, and just got a lvl 50 Minstrel...and completed book 12 that was released 2 days ago. Only problem now, all that left to do really is raid for gear which is too much like WoW and I don't wanna do that, or start another char. Its only 1 instance but still...anyway; I've been talking with friends there and several have played FFXI in the past as well and we're thinking of returning in the next few weeks.

None of us have any problem playing with anyone from other countries or languages, but we'd kinda prefer to start over on a more English populated server. So the question is what server is most populated with English speaking players so we can all jump in and have a good time and slowly relearn other languages along the way.

We'd also like to find a server with other players that wouldn't mind helping us out from time to time in getting sub-job items, additional classes and progressing through the wonderful storylines. {We are not looking for any type of PLing or handouts, just help with what obviously requires higher level help.}

I am currently on Asura and honestly cant think of a time in the last few weeks that I have spoken to someone who does not speak english. I obviously cannot comment on other servers but would recommend Asura for sure.

In terms of help for sub jobs items etc you will get these naturally in the dunes, but if its a good helpful linkshell your after send me a tell in game and I would be more than willing to give you a pearl (character name Abhorsen).

Alrighty I'll give it some thought...hopefully more ppl will respond and I'll talk with my friends too. It'll be at least 2 weeks before we start though. Waiting for the 1st of the month since Square has such a whacky billing system.

...and yeah we'll prolly be looking for a friendly/helpful LS to get us through some areas of the game.

Well, I'm on the server Carbuncle, and so far I've seen some pretty great people. I don't think you have to worry too much about other-language speaking players, because of the time zones. I haven't seen many anyway in Carbuncle.

The social LS I'm in, serinty, is pretty friendly/helpful. They helped me get my subjob, and helped me out with the kazham keys. Even if you're not interested in joining, If you ever hop on Carbuncle, I'll be willing to help you out.

Honestly, most servers have a pretty good english speaking population. There are more Japanese players on at certain times of day, certainly, but not to the exclusion of everyone else.

Kinda figured they would, but I know that some servers have a higher concentration of JP if they we're the original launch servers. When I started playing on an import PC version I was on Seraph into E launch and eventually Ramuh too, both of which were mostly JP.

Like I said though I have absolutely no issues with JP, in fact I love grouping with them, but this time I'd like to have a more conversations and social times with some E instead of trying to guess what the JP are saying...hehe I do tend to play into the late hrs sometimes which is prime JP time!

Anyway when the time comes I'll check out both servers suggested thus far and see how it is before I settle in.

Well yes, right after launch I imagine most servers were probably still JP heavy.

Guess I should've mentioned I havn't played for more than a 1-2 month stretch in 3+ yrs. I have played on n' off several times during those yrs just for something to do, but nothing serious. I'd like to get back into playing seriously, find a great LS, and make a bunch of new friends!
