You'll basically be starting from scratch, but without the annoyance of having to re-do certain quests and missions.
Unless you want to do those, that is.
You could always pay for a world transfer if you want to try a new server without abandoning your character. But really, most servers are the same. I wouldn't suggest creating a new character, because even though a clean slate is nice, you'd have to repeat the subjob quest, you'd have to re-level crafting, you'd have to get access for Kazham again (Well, if you haven't already that is), etc. etc. etc.  BRD 75 WHM 44 NIN 23 WAR 20 THF 16 RDM 16

Level a new job that you can use to get back into the swing of things, and also slowly build some funds.
