Possible Returns, Many Questions

Hi,

A couple friends (possibly 2-4) and I are thinking about returning to FFXI. We played FFXI for about a year when it first hit America.

With that said, we have a bunch of questions we need help with please .

1. Do you still need to do the chocobo quest and pay to ride it? I remember reading somewhere that traveling has changed a little bit with portals?

2. With grabbing the level 30 classes, do you still have to do fairly difficult quests or has it toned down a bit (remember the paladin and summoner one be specifically hard)?

3. Are the quests to get permission to ride the flying ships still around (so you can get to the proper leveling zone)?

4. Question from my friend (I never got that high), do you still have to do the quests to be able to level 49-50, 54-55, etc. If still around, have they gotten any easier?

5. Odd question, is there any servers to stick away from that has really low population (concerned about grabbing people for our group as we level up)?

6. Are there any instances or is it still all pulling mobs to your camping spot?

7. Picking Classes:
a.) I've seen that you don't need to be a full group to get anything done anymore, is that true? Can a duo get to a fairly high level? A Trio?
b.) Whats the downtime like if we went with a duo? A Trio? 4 person?
c.) What would be the ideal group setup if we went with (class and race)
c.1) Duo
c.2) Trio
c.4) 4 People

No, the portals take you back in time (Wings Of the Goddess only.)

I am guessing, yes you still do and that they are still hard.

Yes you do..I am new and I know that one.

Yes you still have to do those quests.

All servers are the same..pick the one as to wich you like the best.

Yes you still have to pull..I dont know why that would change...

Umm..you probly still have to party with alot of people this game isnt like WoW.

I kind of think you might die lol...

Any race can play any job, remember that.

c.1) Duo
c.2) Trio
c.4) 4 People

Also there is no ideal setup when it comes to Class and Race, only Parties, even then its still hard.
