Returning after a deployment and missing the ol' school FFXI

I'm returning from a deployment and I'm finding that I don't want to play anymore >.<! I've had and played FFXI for the last 5 years and so much have changed! I know in the begining there were so much adventure and fun but now nobody but the new players want to go adventure. I help them out as much as possible with anything from Genkai's to AF's even Kazham keys. I miss the ol' school days lol! When you got party regardless of job. When in the dunes it didn't matter whether you had a sub or what rank you were. When you didn't lvl a job to 75 in a month or less. When exping wasn't a chore but fun! I was exping since coming back and reliesed that ppl's attitude changed about learning theirs jobs. AT lvl 50 (was lvling thf), the rdm didn't know about setting up a refresh cycle all they were worried about was casting every II spell they had. And same for alot of blms I've pt'd with...what happened to enfeebing? Back in the day both RDM and BLM took up enfeebing jobs but I was shocked to see a 75 RDM in ls say "Why is the RDM enfeebing?". And I won't even start on the slew of horrible DD and tanks I've been pt'd with. In the race to have every job at 75 are ppl forgetting the skill in learning it? I'm so tired of you need this gear and this stuff to lvl (can u believe some one called my rank 2 mule lvl 14 pld gimped because of gear >.>)...some things I can understand getting but believe me half of the new stuff we have wasn't around 5 years ago. Does gear help out on exping HECK yes but I'm not paying 100k to 500k for like one more AGI or DEX. LOL. (And I even have some one say something about the lvl of my gear because I wore something lower but the lower one had better stats and just as much DEF) I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way cuz even my brothers are feeling the same and are wanting to quit?

The "pokemon" update was two days ago. The novelty will wear off.

Honestly, the game has only gotten better, in my humble opinion. A lot of people tend to look back on their early days in the game with rose colored glasses. Not that things were necessarily better/worse/different, but their perception of the game wasn't the same, and that really does change things quite a bit.

Re: Returning after a deployment and missing the ol' school FFXI

Well

I can honestly say, that after playing this game for 4 years+ myself...not that much has changed. People cared about the same things then as they do now. There was the same feeling of be the best or gtfo...but this feeling was shared by a minority of people. As it is now, those people still exist, and they're still the minority.

The only real difference in the game, is that now it's easier. Getting good gear, lvling, making money, missions, quests, everything has progressively gotten easier and easier as time went on. SE keeps upping the ante with their updates and expansions...but they eventually get weakend, changed or players find the best way to win with the least amount of effort.

What you need to do is to find people who share your passion and feelings on the game, and much like everything else that's easier to do now more then ever. With the ability to choose your server at will upon character creation as well as the ability to jump to any server with your current character(for a small, rl, one time fee) you can find people who share your preferences about the game on a website (such as this) and possibly join them in game.

So all you need now, are people you get along with.

Re: Returning after a deployment and missing the ol' school FFXI

Let me get this straight. You liked it better when people had no idea what they were doing?

I'm going to be honest, ya even I miss what little time I had to help people do things, especially things I needed a lot of help with, but half the things you're complaining about missing can be summed up by asking everyone to be stupid with their job.

Hmm I wonder where you read that at.. cuz I was talking about older days and even said something about my lvl 50 job and the problems I noticed.

Honestly, your OP is hard to read, and kind of contradicts itself halfway through. You start by saying you miss when people just invited whomever, but then you complain that no one plays right.

Aye I read it the same as those two, which scared me at first (not because of you). Its the same game, but people want the fast exp, from kujata stand points this only happens alot on the merit side, exp wise its whom ever is not afk lol.

Re: Returning after a deployment and missing the ol' school FFXI

Meh. I gotta side with Mhurron on the bit about looking at the past with rose-colored glasses. Fact is there were just as many stupid players back then as there are now. And let's face it, we didn't have a clue what we were doing. I can still remember all the superstitions we used to believe back then: INT is magic attack, MND is magic defense; 2-handed weapons break through high defense with their DMG; THF needs to get the killing blow for TH to work; lolDRG; WAR is a sub job (not a main job); WARs running around with swords; PLD/DRK or DRK/PLD; NIN/THF or RNG/THF; CHR affects hate/Provoke; THFs hardly ever used X-bow...the list goes on and on.

Good players now are more skilled at their jobs now than the good players of the past, because they're armed with better knowledge. There's just as many stupid players now as there were back then. The general attitude of the average pick-up player has deteriorated, ok, I'll give you that.

And it's also not true that you could get a party with any job. DRG and DRK had a very heavy stigma for a long time, and NIN, BLM, and RNG were all the rage.

Also,
please
use
line breaks.

I think what the OP needs is a static party with cool people. ^_^
