Realisitic for a New Player?
I played FFXI on US release but haven't played for years... I've been playing DDO lately but it's horrid lack of content is driving me to try something else...

So could a brand new account player really have a chance to estabilish themselves in FFXI at this time... I tried coming back about 6-7 months ago and found I sat in the dunes for 3 days waiting to even find someone to duo with... so I figure the situation is the same... or is it possible I might find a server with a healthy population that still trying to lvl sub jobs or jobs?

Also is the enconomy going to be so out of reach for a new player as well?

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
You should be able to level any job up without horrible trouble depending on your play times. There are days that I could seek all day and no invites, and sometime I get one as soon as I log in. There just seems to be off days from time to time. I can't speak for any other server, but I don't have too much trouble getting a party on Ifrit after too long.

The economy seems to have stabalized after the last round of bannings, and is in my opinion a decent economy for all level ranges of players. But starting out you'll still need to farm quite a bit to get a foot hold. But I don't think it's anything extreme.

How much time are considering playing a week? Or how quick do you intend to level? Of course more time to play you'll be able to accomplish stuff a bit faster. But if you enjoy the leveling and social aspects, and doing various quest/missions you can enjoy this game at any pace. But if you're just interested in hitting 75 and running to endgame, you might want to reconsider unless you have a lot of time to play.

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
Sitting around waiting for a PT is fairly boring, true ... so while you're waiting for a PT, don't just sit around! Both Konschtat and La Theine are adjoining Dunes, and are perfectly workable for soloing (and farming a bit while you're at it).

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
Yes, no matter what you will have a boreing time in the dunes. You'll find that leveling becomes somewhat easier after you get passed that point. The process of leveling out of the dunes can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days. This depends greatly on what you're job is. If you want to get out of the dunes fast so you can experiance everything else I recomend leveling a mage job of some type, preferably BLM or WHM.

"Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Welcome to Alice in FFXI =P

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
What's all this noise about standing around in the dunes waiting for an invite? If you can't find someone to party with, then just kill EP-DC mobs in the neighboring zones (and eventually the dunes themselves) for exp while solo! It's good times, plus you get to keep all of the drops.

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
I think I should be more detailed in my last experience....

Basically I started a new toon after 2 yr absence. I know the basic procedure to getting toon lvled to 30 then doing subjob quest. Getting your chocobo liscense etc...

This situation I experenced aprox 6 months ago... was I sat soloing in the hills and plateau for 3 day without even seeing anyone in my level range. There weren't even armor in the AH to buy. The general impression I got was that 90% of the population was lvl 70+ and had leveled their all the subjobs they needed.

What I did see where sparce #'s of ppl in the 40-60 range with alot of spread between them and they didn't seem to be leveling either since they were all the same level as when I gave up.... and everyone else 70+ I ran to J (name escapes me atm) and everyone was just shouting 70+ merit runs or various high lvl activity.

So basically I'm figuring that maybe I should wait for this new expansion since maybe ppl might lvl the new jobs?

As for my leveling expectations I would say... a lvl a day from 1-40 including going back and lvling subjob or adv. job.... then lvl every 2 days 40-50... hopefully by then I'll have met some ppl that might help me get thru lvl caps easily... then maybe hopefully have met enought ppl to form a set exp party lvls 50-75

I guess I cold use Beastmaster as my first lvled job once able to unlock it

Depending on how hard it was to get those first 30 lvls.

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
Low level armor is better purchaced from NPC's anyway. You may not see many people, but if you put your party flag up eventually you will probably get an invite.

Then again you may just be on a server that doesn't have many people leveling low level characters at the moment.

And while I'm going to assume it was just a typo, you level to 20 for your subjob.

Also I suppose that they could have meant leveling to 30 for advance jobs.

Re: Realisitic for a New Player?
Acutally I just mixed up sub lvl job with getting access to adv. jobs..

Like I said it's been years....... and I didn't get very far in my limited attempt into getting back into the game aprox 6-7 months ago

I do remember now that u just need the 3 items from the dunes for the subjob quest... just needed a reminder to jar up the memory

Just to further clarify....

Basically how much life do ppl think life is left in FFXI? I've obviously got a long road and hence investment in the game to try and get estabilished... FFXI is not a solo to 70 WoW MMORG in like a month or 2.... I would think I'm looking at a year + to lvl my first job to max lvl cap... might even be longer given my previous experience with getting low level jobs leveled...

Is the game too mature for a person just starting out?

Are you going to be able to find ppl willing to take time out of their high level content to help ppl get past level caps and nation missions...

Realisitically how many... new to the game ppl are out there anymore? Has everyone that's going to be playing FFXI already been playing... in many cases years and years already.

I've been looking thru this forum and seems to me the vast majority of ppl are ppl who already have high lvl toons and are asking about reactivation... rather than starting from scratch.

There's a new expansion coming out with new jobs.

Obviously the game is doomed.
