Should I even go back to FFXI?

Ooookay, I didn't post any url's, thanks for wiping my post... anyhow... Should I even return back to Vana'diel? I dunno, I want to go back, getting back everything I sold would be a healthy challenge, but besides that. I guess I'm wondering if anythings different after first quarter 2006?

Yes. Things are [probably] different from how you remember them. How much different isn't exactly a question I can answer.

To answer your main question as a whole, however, if you want to play FFXI then play FFXI. Otherwise, don't.

Reason I left? Good question... I suppose, I really don't know. At the time I didn't have a linkshell, was leveling for scraps on my dragoon job and hunting quadev (spellcheck) shells. Other than that, I don't really know. I was just looking at the screen and just said fuck it. And after that I did go and play World of Warcraft, then scrapped it for the blackhole that it was.

Sounds like you wanted connections to other players, to be a part of the community. ^_^ The changes, then, won't impact you much. (Well, you may complain about how much less you'd get from farming, but everything on AH costs less anyway, so no great loss.)

This would be a big change from DD job like Dragoon, but have you tried White Mage? The easiest path to form human connections and become a part of the community is to be helpful, and WHM is perfect for that, in and out of the parties.

According to the 7th Vana'diel Census, White Mage is the most popular of all jobs, at 16%--I guess that's proof positive that the FFXI community is filled with kind folks who like helping others? heh.

Not necessarily (spellcheck) true... I remember my paladin fudging up horribly once, and they blamed the whm. And, as DakAttack said above, I find the healing position incredibly boring, though it could be lucrative if someone had the mindset. I prefer to keep the bad guys off the soft ones or stabbing a tuning fork through their skulls. Bleh, now I'm sounding silly... I really don't know how to repond to you about being apart of the community though, I do my job in parties, and aside from a few mishaps, I haven't had any complaints on how I do the job.

Well, if you look at the login distribution, 78% of players log in for 1-3 hours or less each day.

Community isn't all within the parties. You need a linkshell, and you could use the adventurous satisfaction from running around dangerous dungeons helping people.

I found Whm easy, not quite enjoyable, but satisfying after a good party. It's not one of those jobs where you space off for a few minutes until you notice that bar under where your MP bar should be starts flashing at you. I always liked taking hits, though, rather than helping others take theirs.

Never could figure out why I wasn't able to get into linkshell groups. Just didn't really look I suppose. Have this thing about random invites. Well, I'm heading to bed for the night. Pick this thread back up in the morning before work.

You can probably make new friends and meet new people, but without existing friends, I wouldn't return myself.

Well, I'll be different: Yes, return. Forget "getting back" old equipment for now; level a new job, meet people, and see how things work out.
