OK so i haven't played in about a year and i'm pretty much sure my character has been deleted. I still have my Game and the codes, and am pretty sure that i have to buy another copy, but is this true? Also, when i played before i played on my computer which ran it perfectly, but now i am hoping my laptop will run it. Everythings fine except that i have a crappy video chipset thing and it doesn't support hardware TnL. I have downloaded the 3d-Analyze software but was wondering how i actually use this to run FFXI? Thanks for your help |

Download the Benchmark3 program from Playonline.com to find out if you can run it, but without a card that supports Hardware T&L I doubt you can run the game.

Yes that is what 3d-Analyze is for, it's emulated Hardware TnL. I know lots of people without Hardware TnL supported graphic cards use it. I just want to know how to use the software and how well it works. Also, do i have to buy another copy of FFXI? |

If you can't recover your old POL ID then yep, you need to buy a new copy of the game, the keys get linked to the ID you register them with. About 3D-Analyze I have no idea what it does but I'm sure someone around here will, either way using the Benchmark to test if it works with it is still a good way of finding out if it'll work with XI since both use the same engine.

As stated above, run the 3D Analyze software with the FFXI Benchmark and see what score you end up with. I "suspect" that you will not be able to run at acceptable frame rates even with a fantastic on-board processor, sinec the 3D Analyze software uses your main processor to do software emulation of what should be happening automatically on your video card in hardware. As far as buying a new copy of the software goes, IF you have your original disks and remember your PlayOnline ID and password, chances are you can simply install and update PlayOnline and get back into POL that way. You'll still need to deal with the fact that your character is most likely soft deleted, however - in that case you're going to have to contact PlayOnline Support and see if they can do anything, and chances are they're going to tell you to wait until the next Return to Vana'diel campaign (which should start sometime around February). Whatever you do (I can't stress this enough), once you get into PlayOnline and check for your character in FFXI, if your character does not appear on the characters list, do NOT panic and create a new character with the same name. Doing so will most likely increase the complexity of recovering your original character, since the Square-Enix staff will have to figure out which one is the Real McCoy when restoring the character (and you really don't want to increase the risk of them making a mistake of that sort if at all possible). Today i used the Benchmark 2 software as i wasn't aware that Benchmark 3 was out. The "hardware TnL" error came up even if i used the 3d-Analyze software. But afta using the Benchmark 3 software it worked fine. Ran it twice without 3d-Analyze software and got 1998 and 2005 scores. With the software i got 2050. So should be OK yeh? Thanks for the help |

A score in the 2000 range should be acceptable, yes. Are you using a hyper-thread or dual core processor? That might explain the lack of performance hit - ordinarily, any software emulation produces a noticeable bump in performance. Icemage |
