Maxing MP for Convert

Ok, so Im 39 with 1.9 tnl now...very shortly will be getting Convert.

Now I know the best way to make use of Convert is to have HP/MP as close as possible....

But as Elvaan my stats are currently HP 689 and MP 362 - this is with my RSE and Black Earring only that give +MP.

So what can I do to even them out? I cant afford 1M on 2 x astrals, nor can I afford the loss of MND or INT given by my Saintly and Eremites rings in those slots.

Am I going to be stuck?

use electrum rings at 40 and use equipment macros to swap out rings for convert.

As an Elvaan RDM it will be very hard to get HP <= MP. It's possible for me as a RDM... I have roughly 1000HP and 600 some MP (a little over) at 66th level and there is a very expensive and/or hard to acquire gear combination that will push me to the level necessary to equalize my HP and MP. A good setup (possibly a little over or under optimal) at my level is:

Astral Shield 30 H>M
Astral Rope 15 H>M
Astral Earring 25 H>M
Vivian Ring 50 H>M
Serket Ring 50 H>M
Flora Cotehardie 30 H>M

That's 200... on the nose, but extremely expensive. And that's for a Hume. It won't get nearly as close for an Elvaan. I've begun focusing simply on Maximizing my MP rather than converting MP. A lot of things can give you nice bonuses to MP at higher level though none are generally as high as the conversion items.

Here is the complete list of items that can be used to convert HP to MP for a RDM:

RDM HP->MP Gear

Full Zenith +1 converts 275HP->MP... That with jewelry will get you there, but it's a long way to go.

Ok, I can do Electrum Rings hopefully or borrow some.

I was just reading through some of the macros people use, and i swear to god, I have so much to learn its not even funny. I probably chose the hardest job to play, esp as 1st main to 75 ^^

Yep, RDM is very hard to play if you want to be good, but it's also very rewarding.

Get used to equip macros and to have your inventory full of items for those macros. It only get's worse as you lvl up and get more subs leveled.

Personally I do not see use of the "Convert Ratio" Beyond, at max +180ish MP, enough for 2 Cure4s (one if you're /whm).

Simply? The rest gets lost when you macro in any sort of potency gear. It takes a lot to stretch your MP even that far, which means when you stretch yourself back to go back to spell performance, you're going to loose a whole lot of MP.

The only cause where I see such ratio good is when you are primary cure in a party. The potancy of your debuffs inst as high of a priority than your cures and you can afford to slack, a little, to have a larger MP pool for cure spamming.

Other than that, it logically escapes me how one would over-stretch their MP in convert so much.

I try to use up my "bonus mana" on buffs and nukes. They don't work as well without potency gear, but they're essentially free... I type these spells in manually rather than activating my equipment-swap macros...

For instance (keep in mind I type very fast with good accuracy):

/equip main "Earth Staff"
/ma "Stone III"
/ma Haste <p1> [WAR say]
/ma Refresh <p2> [PLD maybe]
/ma Haste <p2>
/ma Refresh <p3> [Misc. Mage]
...

before going back to macro.

I have a tendency to type buffs anyway since there's really no gear swaps that I've found effective for them as yet (I haven't broken 100 INT or MND yet).

Well, I have only recently started using equip macros - one for MND and one for INT, and one for healing, ever since I saw the video of that RDM/NIN soling Fenrir.

Even now, I lax a bit on actually useing those macros when I am feeling lazy.

INT is basically Solid Wand, Eremites x 2, Black Cape and Black Neckerchief
MND is Solida Wand, Saintly x2, Justice Badge, White Cape
Healing is Pilgrims and cookie

I start a fight on MND, blind/slow/para/grav/Bio II/poison, recast when resisted or wears...

If there is more than 10 secs of no wears then I switch to INT to nuke a bit, then back to MND for more enfeebs.

Obviosuly Healing macro after each fight...

But from what Iv read I am already doing it wrong since Grav and Bio are INT based spells ><

They are due a re-work, which Ill do tonight. Then macros for Refresh and Convert as well.

Refresh and Haste benefit from Fast Cast gear, since they have longish cast and recast times. I macro in AF1 head and AF2 body for them.

Then, since I have a macro for them anyway, I macro in some +enhancing skill gear too, just in case I get hit while casting them (skill slightly reduces the chance of being interrupted by damage). This may rarely matter but it doesn't really cost me anything.

Macros and gear becomes very complex at higher levels of RDM if you're fiddling with Convert efficiency.

I'm Tarutaru so my situation is a bit different; I have to boost HP and MP to maximize Convert - it's very easy for me to go overboard and actually have more MP than HP, which is bad.

Even so, there's some neat items other than RSE you can probably acquire that will help you get closer to where you want to be (HP/MP stats listed only, these things do other stuff too).

Spirit Torque: Neck, Lv38, MP+10
Fencing Degen: Main, Lv41, MP+10 (RDM AF1, Rare/Ex)
Electrum Hairpin: Head, Lv40, HP-10 MP+25
Fortune Egg: Ammo, Lv1, MP+1% (Easter event item, Rare/Ex)
Morion Tathlum: Ammo, Lv25, MP+3
Aurora Mantle(+1): Back, Lv38, MP+10(+12)
Royal Squire's Robe: Body, Lv40, MP+10
Geist Earring: Ear, Lv38, MP+5
Enhancing Earring: Ear, Lv40, HP+5 MP+5 (Rare)
Astral Earring: Ear, Lv45, HP>MP 25 (Rare, extremely expensive)

i never worried about maxing mp until 75, the parties just moved to slow to ever really worry about it, always being able to last 10 minutes till convert.
at 73+ i rarely rest so it is very important so now i got it equal 1031hp/1031mp (mithra). subing whm that number will never change even gear swaps, unless nuking which doesn't happen very much. and if i know i will be nuking i will /blm which will boost the mp back up anyways.
i would say to you eat some nice mp food, Icecap Rolanberry would be ok for you maybe, you would get 55mp for 3 hours with +2int. there is a few 3hour sweets that will give you big mp for cheap. remember you just lasted 39 lvls without convert, now can you last 10 minutes. good luck =)

Now Iv had a bit of experience using Convert and such, I find that my setup is quite alright. I mean, Im Elvaan, with now ~700HP + ~400MP (all +MP gear)

Im still lasting easy 10mins for Convert, so I think Im ok.

Need to farm a bit now to get some more updated equips.

Watch out for the culture shock at level 55+ when parties move into ToAU zones and kick into overdrive. Nothing puts the screws to your skills as an RDM more than a high-octane TP burn party that's taking down enemies once every 60 seconds.
