I'm up for getting it if I can see why I should. Is the +3 or so magic accuracy on the body really worth a million gil? Is it going to be more effective then the huge +enfeebling from the AF body? I could see it helping with mbs, but I'm not going to spend a million gil for slightly better mbs. As for the other pieces, it seems I already have better gear.

Aside from the price of raw materials, the value of Wise may come from it being a decent all around set if you don't like to equip swap.

If anything, I'll get it just to say I have it when I get to that level. It might come to use, who knows. But either way it looks cool and looks pretty good, at least in some situations. It all matters in what you do I guess.

I checked again today, and the hat also gives +5 magic accuracy I think. So, combined with the body I think you can get +8 magic accuracy. I still don't think this would outweigh the huge enfeebling bonus from af body or fast cast/+elemental from the hat. I agree it looks kind of cool, but I can't really think of any situation where other gear I already have would be better.

For me, for basic enfeebling, you can't beat the raw enfeebling magic skill of the tabard. The wise gear may be good for dark magic, for instance when you sub blm and drain, but Warlock's Tabard > Chausible...

The ACC can help when you're soloing or otherwise swinging your sword. The Enmity will help with those mobs that need to be cast on a whole lot, say those you need to Dispel many times in a row right near the start of the battle. The MACC can come in handy for MB and it should help in sticking enfeebles to those things that can be resistant but are VT++ and lower. It's not as flashy as RDM AF, but only high level RDM can wear it. Quote:
However, by the time you can equip the Wise set, you're fighting VT's in exp parties. Your natural enfeebling skill is more then enough to land enfeebs reliably on them. If you were still having problems a Goblin Mushpot and Spider/Enfeebling torque should solve them, there's also Master Casters bracelets for Windurst Rank 8 or higher. Under those circumstances your AF body goes from the must have totally awesome where have you been all my life gear to this is fantastic for going against the really tough stuff. You'll always keep it but by this point in the game, you might find that for most of the things you do either some or all of the Wise set and some of the Errant set will also greatly help your performance. Personally, I do fully intend to get the full Wise set, but it's doubtful that I will be equipping all 5 pieces at the same time and my AF definitely will not be going into storage because of it.

Adding melee options for this kind of RDM gives them more options. I've seen melee geared RDMs that are actually more geared to soloing than the standard RDM you see and actually kill a whole lot faster. As for party situations, this set isn't good. I know of RDMs that, when it comes to Dynamis or party situations, will shed their wise set and put their other (million gil) pieces to use instead.

I was looking at the leg part for magic accuracy for a while. But it wasn't appealing enough for me to buy it. However, the new Nashira set looks really good. Beat the hell out of wise set imo http://ffxi.somepage.com/search/search.php

The Wise Cap I macro in for Enfeebs and the Body I macro in for Nukes. The entire set is very situational, but it's nice.

Didnt read everything cause I am lazy but my take on it is this. AF body is +15 enfeebling skill. 1 skill point = 1 acc point for magic and combat skill really. Or thats what alot of people seem to believe. With that known, obviously for enfeebling the AF body is better. I did use the cap for enfeebling though, then switched to AF for long cast/recast spells(refresh, stoneskin, haste). I also used the AF hat for drain and aspir. Later I got an Elite Beret which baiscally replaced the JSE hat in tose situations. Also between wise pants and errant for pts, i don't see a differace honestly, though for soloing I like wise pants more(no combat -'s). I also macro Wise gloves in for MND based spells. I suppose I could buy JSE boots and do the same for INT spells(swapping between JSE and errant). In the end, I suppose it has its uses but for the most part you will be using AF and errant in pts. Out of pts the acc could help, but if you eat sushi it probally wont be noticeable(if you have your skill up to date). Anyway thats my take on wise gear as a whole, and how I use it. |

And yes that would be nice to have and probably is better but honestly, Wise is going to be a lot easier to get.

I've been looking at Wise for three reasons: 1) It's.... cheap. (Everything's relative on Remora I guess.) 2) It's very good supplemental gear for equip macroing. 3) It's so fashionable, isn't it?^^ (Almost forgot the most important reason!)

Tarus look kinda cute in the Wise Cap, that (and for Dark Magic) is basically the only reason to get the Wise set. For head piece, the Elite Beret is better than the cap, for body you have Errants and the Tabard, for hands there's Devotee's Mitts (+1), for legs there's Errant (or even better Mahatma Slops that're not that expensive). The only piece of the Wise set that's actually really good even compared to our other choices is the feet, where only the Duelist's Boots will be better. |
