...you probably need other spells to level RDM to the point you get Refresh. I think you'd be hard pressed trying to level RDM around 15-40ish w/out even Cure.

I guess the question is "why arent you casting anything else?" Is it a matter of not having time? Or of not needing to cast cures? You will always need dispel, along with other enfeebles. Unless you're in the middle of casting another spell, dispel when needed should be first priority. The tank or whoever can live an extra 5 seconds w/o refresh.
Or, are you speaking of phalanx, stoneskin, bar-spells etc.? In those cases they are really more for soloing than xp party use. Just one of those things you have to get used to.
Also, do you routinely party with all 4 of those jobs at once? B/c if so, then you're saying you only have one melee. So, unless the smn is good at sc'ing with the melee you wont be mb'ing much and wont have to worry too much about nuking.
I'm sorry if I wasnt real concise, but I'm not sure which spells you'd like to cast more.

If you can't find time to cast other spells in between Refresh, you're doing something seriously wrong. I can still slide in extra spells even when anchoring a manaburn party as RDM/BRD (that's *6* Refreshes + Mage's Ballad), there's no reason why you shouldn't have time to cast important things like Paralyze, Slow, or Dispel in between Refresh casts.

I absolutely agree. I am incredibly busy as a rdm, thats why I love the job so much. Haste, Regen, Paralyze, Slow, Poison II, Dia II/Bio II, Blind, Gravity, Cures, magic burst (if I have the mana to spare), Dispel (if needed), Sleep or Silence (if needed), Stoneskin/Blink/Phalanx (if needed), and, of course, Refresh. A constant eye on the chat log to see if a debuff wears. An eye on the hp/mp bars for cures and refresh. I have no time for ls chat or even for distractions at home. I am one busy beaver! This is the job of the Red Mage.

This is the reason I'm contemplating starting it up. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE rng, but it gets a little old just hitting ctrl+d over and over. Finding the sweet spot is more a hassle than a challenge. Only thing I really have to pay attention to is SC and barrage. Pulling is about the only other thing that takes any talent at all.
Having to get really into it and try to read all the battle spam really does sound like fun. It seems like it would make it less monotonous.

One thing you could do to spiffy up your routine is this:

Refresh.1 => Paralyze + Slow => Refresh.2

Inbetween 2 refresh casts you can fit a paralyze and slow cast. Given you're not using the menu system with a mouse. It's mostly about timing and speed. Unless you've got some conveinient macro to do a combination of casts.

So, while you're in the middle of casting a refresh spell, get another spell ready to cast right away since refresh isn't as instant as dia.

Refresh is essential for keeping the chain and fast xp gain in party, there is no shame in doing this lovely spell again and again throughout our rdm career to lvl 75 ^^).

As ur lvl progress, u will find difficulties upon landing ur enfeebling and the skill and technique to swap in equipments tailor for a spell becomes a must. Also ur gils will mostly be spent on +mnd or +int or +mp equipments.

Also at later stage, u will participate more and more into Magic Burst, dont look down onto ur ability, every bit of enfeebling, enhancing and MB count towards the ultimate goal of xp fast.

refresh rdm>tank(pld)>blm>whm>drk/smn
the recast is long enough to cast 1 long or 2 short spells between your refresh

disple, paralyze, dia/bio, slow, gravity.... etc

I like those rdm's that cast refresh then sit healing lol, the people are yelling for dispells and silence and whatnot and he is probably not even looking at the screen.

i`ll give a drk refresh when he gets below 30% mp or i bring him into my cycle if i know he is casting much.

it don`t make sense to refresh someone who has 200mp and don`t use it.

Yeah, I start my Refresh cycle with me, I then Haste the TANK, then wait about 2 seconds before I Refresh the next person. But I have no problems casting and landing Paralyze and Slow before I move onto the next MP user.

I usually Refresh the DRK if they're spending any real amount of MP, or if they're at about 40-50% MP. I had a party the other night with a DRK who would MB every now and again. I also had a DRK that would Stun before the Skill chain started or just after it started. So I'd make sure they had enough MP for a Stun or two. Then again, my last two parties were in Cape Terrigan with a DRK. They could easily Aspir plenty of MP back to keep their MP up. I rarely had to bother with Refreshing them.

Now there have been parties that I've had no time to really enfeeble. The parties where they make me do full time RDM duties, as well as full time WHM duties, all while Refreshing 4-5 people. So I'm hasting, and Refreshing, and trying to actually enfeeble. In instances like that, I usually check a person's MP, and decided if they're going to be in the up coming Refresh cycle. I've only had one complaint about this. And it was a Taru BLM with almost 1k MP, and would send me rude /tells for Refresh when they have 500-600 MP still.
