Dispel = Magic Finale?
What's the difference here? I noticed its a lot cheaper and my friend tells me it has the exact same effect. What would make Dispel any better than Magic Finale or are they exactly the same? :confused:

They're basically the same thing, but there are a few differences:

- Finale casts faster than Dispel.
- Dispel costs MP.
- Dispel's recast time is faster than Finale.

When I'm in a PT with a bard I never bother with Dispel because the BRD always finishes casting Finale before I can cast Dispel, and Finale doesn't cost the BRD any MP anyway. However, if the BRD is in the middle of a song then that's the best time to use Dispel. Also, if the monster re-uses its buff ability right after it got Finaled, then it's your turn to Dispel it because Finale's recast time is too long to reuse over and over.

Dispel is basically a back-up Finale. However, you are not always in a PT with a BRD so during those times you're required to cast Dispel 100% of the time. If there is a BRD then I'm only casting Dispel about 10% of the time.

Yeah, it's pretty sad that we don't even get the best dispel and refresh. And at higher levels WHM get better regens, too.

I guess convert is the only RDM ability that some other job doesn't have a better version of.

There is a difference in element, too.

Dispel = Dark
Finale = Light

Dispel isn't usually resisted but it was resisted once when I casted it on VT Antican something.

finare tends to get resisted a lot : / if you turn on all the messege spam then almost like 1/3 finare are resisted. dispel rarely... plus dispel got a cooler looking effect too.

what do you mean refresh? I thought we were the only job that had the spell refresh ( not counting bards)

We have the best dispel and refresh in fact.

Although Jei mention Finale is often resisted while dispel isn't, it has even longer casting and recasting time than dispel does.

- Finale [Cast: 8sec / Recast: 24sec]
- Dispel [Cast: 3sec / Recast: 10sec]

I think those of you have been to Crawler's Nest find that Crawlers use Cocoon a lot in each battle. If their HP is less than 1/4, they even tend to use it every 10 seconds.

We know Dispel costs 25MP but which is better in this case?

As for Refresh, Refresh spell recovers the highest amount of MP. They are what I posted on other thread but take a look.

- Refresh Spell [Cost 40MP]: 3MP per 3sec - total 150MP in 150sec

- Ballad I: 1MP per 3sec - total 40MP in 120sec
- Ballad II: 2MP per 3sec - total 80MP in 120sec

Well, BRDs and RDMs are basically supporters and we don't need to argue which one is better. We get along very well.

We have to have both a BRD and RDM in our PT if we want to have ultimate experience.

Magic Finale casts in about 3 seconds, not 8.

You're right. It is not 8 sec but 2 sec. Thanks for the correction. Recasting time remains 24 sec.
